It isn’t even close to being as screwed up as it can be.

When an actual cable "news" channel puts on Mrzzz Melissa Harris-Perry's hot new fas-ahon sensation and that network keeps a straight face, yeah, it's gittn there...

Olive oil!? Blech! (scrapping tongue) Coconut oil RULES! Long ago, all movie popcorn was made with coconut oil until The Fats police (wrongly) maligned coconut oil.

I have a popcorn pan with the crank to make our popcorn on our gas stove. I salt ours with finely ground salt after coating the popcorn in rich butter we get from the local Amish.

Jiffypop... as I understand, you have to constantly shake that? But perfect for a campfire, even on your deck.

Popcorn balls are fun, too. Just make a big batch of popcorn, pour a bag of melted marshmallows over them, butter up your hands so you can shape it into balls. Roll in mini chocolate or butterscotch chips. I make Christmas ones by rolling them in crushed candycanes, not mint-flavored, the cherry/grape/banana flavored.

I always had better luck with extra-fat yellow kernels than those petite white kernels.

i have never heard of extra-fat yellow kernels... i just buy the Orville Redenbacher's Original... except the last time i bought in NC, i tried the white kernels... i did not notice a difference...

Things always comes in threes, it seems. At least it does in our family. You had your third cr*ppy event. Things should get better.

sounds great will have to try this version.

My version of kettle corn

In a "Stir-Crazy' popper I place 1/4 cup coconut oil and three kernels to start. When the three kernels pop (oil is then ready).

I place a premixed (3/4 cup popcorn kernels + 1/4 cup brown sugar + 1/4 teaspoon salt = for salty/sweet taste) into popper. When finished popping, dump popcorn into another bowl, stir slightly to break up some clumping. Easiest to clean popper while still warm.

Noticed that using white sugar taste is similar to popcorn balls, while brown sugar is akin to kettle/caramel corn...enjoy

LOL! So olive oil is what I had on hand one day years ago when we were out of any other oil in the entire house, workshop, or shed. :) Was jonesin' popcorn something fierce and gave it a go with olive oil. Been doing it that way ever since. It gives is just a slightly, ever so slightly, different taste.

FWIW, I've made it that way a few times with friends/family over and it is always a hit...even with one niece who actually didn't like popcorn. Now, the only place she ever has it is at my house. :)

Having said all that, I see quite a few people use coconut oil...so might try that some day.

Are you by any chance having BOYSCOUT POPCORN? That would support a scout and you would have the opportunity to support the troops at the same time!
