Fracking for oil and natural gas—or having enough water to drink.
That's the possible dilemma facing a number of countries including the United States, according to a new report released by the World Resources Institute last week—though experts disagree on the real implications of the report and what should be done about it.
Forty percent of countries with shale-rich deposits—the types where hydraulic fracturing or "fracking" is used to extract natural gas and oil—face water scarcity in and around the shale deposits, according to the WRI report.

Fracking takes place thousands of feet underground. Any community using underground well or aquifer water is pumping it from 50-200 feet underground. They are completely different spaces.
Its like asking “cars - are they are danger to airplanes?”
Any leakage of gas or the small amount of chemicals used happens from faulty well-bores or piping on the way up. In that case, it has nothing to do with the process of “tracking” - simply the quality of the pipe and seals on the well.
The Third option is frack and have all the fresh clean water you want. Because this is all leftist Bull Pucky.

They are now trying to push hydraulic fracturing consumes the water they need for drinking in dry areas.

The well water near Ft Hood tasted like crap for years, and there were never any wells drilled or fracked in that area. The closest is probably 60 miles away on the east side of IH 35.

Hydraulic fracturing has been most states for decades, including mine and near where I live.
I would be overjoyed if I our property had a producing well from hydraulic fracturing.

They are not fracking contracts, that is the NIMBY attempt to scare folks. They sign mineral leases, just like I have.
Keep trying to pretend this is something new and dangerous. I have great protection against that; it is called knowledge.
We started hydraulic fracturing in this country back in 1940s. Most oil/gas wells, shale or not, get hydraulic fracturing stimulation sometime in their lifetime.
