[Kittie] Purrfect Arch

This is not intended as an advertisement or an endorsement of a product. A Harriet Carter catalog arrived today and this picture was on the front cover. I simply thought it captured a typical feline attitude, one of superiority and self-indulgent pleasure.

"The commercial for that thing irritates the heck out of me. Implies that all cats are female."

Until I was about ... oh, maybe 8 or 9 or 10 years old (?) I thought that dogs and cats were one species.

I figgered that dogs were the guys and cats were the girls.

I further figgered that they got together and had litters of dogs and cats.

I grew up in a city.
I also thought that white cows gave white milk and that brown cows gave chocolate milk.
I wasn't real sure about the ones that were spotted black and white.

Their TV commercial is a good one- the cats really seem to adore the device.

What piqued my interest is how much the pictured kittie resembles mine and the look of self-satisfied pleasure on his face, almost bordering on smugness -- a trait to which cats are most entitled. :)

The product, which I don't intend to buy, looks like it might be easily tipped over. Knowing how ingenious cats are when it comes to their ability to creatively redesign things from what we mere humans intended, I envision the brush component getting removed in short order from the base. The cynic in me imagines my cat taking one look at it, raising an eyebrow and thinking, "You got me that thing?!?" and then heading straight to the sofa for some real clawing. As a grizzled, seasoned vet, I have a totally unused scratching post that has elicited only a look of utter boredom from my not only my current cut but his predecessor (RIP) as well! :)

iPad Koi/etc. are a hit, however.

You ought to see the paw prints on my old-school CRT monitor!

Anything to distract them from begging for food and/or attention for a few minutes, huh?

I sympathize... ;-)
