Many of us have heard of the mischievous act of sneaking up to sleeping cows in the middle of night and then shoving them over.
When people talk about cow-tipping, I've usually heard of it as "matter of fact." (I know Minnesota is sometimes called a "cow-tipping state")
I have grown up in the state of Minnesota all my life. In fact, most of my life, I've grown up in the farming communities where there plenty of cows.
Yet, I have never seen actual cow tipping before, nor have ever known anyone that's admitted to doing this.
Is this a real thing or an urban legend? Perhaps some of the older people here that have grown up on farms can shed some light on this.
So I picked up the bale again, this time holding it like a blocking-dummy, and made a charge at her. She sent me and the bale back about 10 feet, and I landed on my back.
Now, I understand physics, and I understood that she had a 1000+ pound weight advantage . . . I neglected to consider that she had four legs versus my two.
Yeah. That's sort of the hazard with alcohol, dark fields, and young fellers who might not know the difference...right away...
A cow laying on it’s side can get up on it’s own.

castrating
de-horning

All can get up on their own.
Oh yeah. Get three guys, run, and slam the cow simultaneous with your shoulder. The cow leans, tips, and then boom, hits the ground. Just avoid doing it during rutting and calving season at all costs.

Another problem is that cows, unlike horses, do not sleep on their feet — they doze. Ms Boechler said that cows are easily disturbed.

Cows don’t sleep standing up.
They don’t sleep much at all. They’d much rather be eating.
But cows are dumber than dumb.
Yes, they'll probably waste your tip on cigarettes, candy, or cheap booze.
While in high school I helped with a dairy herd. While getting one plugged in it managed to kick me twice. I lost my temper and gave it several of the best punches in the side that I could land. It didn’t even stop chewing.
I doubt it.
Only when I went to college and experienced people from New York, New Jersey and Boston did I hear: “ So did you ever go cow tipping?” followed by inane laughter.
I worked on a dairy farm every summer during my teen years, grew up in a very rural area of Maine and never once did I hear of such thing. Never.
Running at a cow and trying to knock her over I think would be like running into a brick wall.
Besides, I think if a farmer caught sight of such activity you’d get end getting shot.
Having been out there a few times, I can see why it's so popular...........and the sheep aren't so nervous...LOL!
It looks like they all got up and walked away with no injuries. ;-)
My grandfather had a dairy operation in eastern NC with about 110 milkers. When my younger sister was about five she decided that she wanted a calf. Grandfather told her she could have one if she could catch it.
BIG MISTAKE!
Early the next summer, when she was six, here she comes with a calf with a rope around its neck and mama cow coming on fast. You can imagine the tantrum when dad wouldn't let her take it home in the car. She was barely mollified when grandfather told her the calf wasn't old enough to leave her mama and that he would keep the calf there on the farm so she could visit it. By the next summer she had forgotten all about it.
