Of course I was just being facetious. But it’s true, a long flight sitting in fully upright position is torture. I got an emergency exit row seat once, which I thought was going to be really great because of the extra leg room, until I found that they had the seats set to not recline. The extra legroom totally wasn’t worth not being able to recline; it was pure torture for me.
I don’t know why this is an issue all of a sudden. I’ve never had a problem with reclining before, either with being upset at the person in front of me, or with the person behind me being upset at me.
Yup. The person in front of you paid for the ability to recline. If you prevent them from doing it, you owe them 1/2 their purchase price.
Simple solution: Get rid of the TSA. Everyone’s ticket goes down.
Most planes flying in or from the US offer a premium economy product. Domestic it’s usually just more leg room you tack on for a surcharge at seat selection, but internationally it’s its own small cabin, with more legroom and wider seats (typically 8 across when economy is 9 or 10 across) and better food.
I am fortunate to fly business class for work, but recently took the family to Asia on one of the flag carrier’s premium economy. Seats were the size, and more than the comfort and recline, of a typical domestic first class seat. Not really enough to sleep, but we picked a mostly daytime at point of departure flight, so completely painless.
