I have a prayer request. I am having cancer surgery on Sept 16. Less than two weeks away. I'm having a mastectomy, with reconstruction. It all gets done (or at least started) on the table. Please pray for my fear, which is usually at the manageable level. And that I make it through surgery. I'll be in the hospital for one day. I opted to stay with my surgical oncologist that operated on me two years ago (cancer then too) for many reasons, one being he's THE breast cancer surgeon in Middle GA. Trouble is, after I was diagnosed, I've moved and he's now a bit more than an hour away. Still, I need to stay with him. I just couldn't trust anyone else. Also there's an excellent, skilled plastic surgeon down there that I will have. I don't know how I'll get back and forth afterwards, for the further work on reconstruction, but I will just have to find a way. Thank you for your prayers, my FRiends Shimmer

Oh Shimmer, I’m so sorry for your situation. Normally I don’t post replies to the prayer threads, I just pray for the people and that’s it, but I can sense your loneliness so here’s my reply. Wish I was still in Georgia, I would give you a ride but I’m in Arkansas now. Do you belong to a church that could find someone to help you out?

Well, I just moved here two months ago. I have a church that I go to, but they don’t really know me yet. I went and asked for prayer when they asked if anyone had any prayer needs. I asked for my friend Patricia (who belongs there too) who’d just had a mastectomy the day before, and for me, who was facing the same thing. I was the only one who stood up and asked. The man up front forgot to mention me. I got up and left and cried. I did tell the man at the door, who with his wife is a new friend. He prayed with me and told me they were friendly there. (they THINK they are) He encouraged me to find friends, but you can’t just walk up to people and say “Hey there, want to invite me home to lunch?” And I’m friendly with several couples, but only talking in church. and the wives are always busy.
I do want to say that I’m very friendly, one of those never-met-a-stranger types. :D I smile and greet everyone. But it never goes beyond that.
I’m ok being alone, but I guess I am lonely.
Did they have a mastectomy? Were they scared? And they did ok?
You are in my prayers. I am confident you will do well, as I have had friends and family endure this.
May you feel God close to you. May your fears be allayed, as he holds you in the palm of His hand.
Several had mastectomies; they were scared. But got through it. It’s been over 5 years for most of them.

I had SUCH a bad day yesterday. I did better today. :)
Prayers for all to go well, better than expected. I live in southern GA. Not a native, though, so everything is still somewhat new to me. I pray that this doctor will get all the cancer cells and that you will not have to repeat this again. I pray for you to have His peace, of mind and spirit. Our assistant pastor said something today that made an impression on me. During our praise time, he stated that sometimes you have to get all the way to the bottom to understand that you are standing on (the) Rock. This was directed to believers who are experiencing fear, depression (a friend of one of our youth recently committed suicide), and trials. I don’t know if this registers in any way, but I pray that you find Christ as your Rock and strength.
