Was it Rick Mears? Maybe - for some reason I thought it was one of the Unsers. I think it was right before Turn 3, so we're probably thinking of the same disintegrating wabbit.
There's a Youtube video out there of a road-racing circuit somewhere - in Europe, perhaps - of a white racing car (looked like 1970s vintage, perhaps) hitting a deer. The deer gets launched skyward but the camera doesn't linger to show where it landed. No visible damage to the car, either - it just knocked the deer off its hooves then punted it to the moon.
