49ers, Giants Respond to Alleged Dog Beating Video
NBC Bay Area ^ | Friday, Aug 29, 2014

The San Francisco Giants and 49ers both said Thursday they are "disturbed" by allegations that the CEO of the company that provides concessions to AT&T Park and Levi's Stadium was caught on video kicking and abusing his dog.

Media reports have circulated surveillance video of a man identified as Centerplate CEO Desmond Hague kicking a frightened puppy and choking it with its leash in a Vancouver elevator last month.

The Connecticut-based company handles food and beverage sales at numerous entertainment venues, including for the Giants and 49ers. Its Board of Directors said in a statement that it has censured Hague, putting him on indefinite probation and any future misconduct would mean his termination.

The board is also requiring Hague to donate $100,000 toward the establishment of a foundation in honor of the abused dog, Sade, to protect animals in Vancouver. The board said it plans to donate a portion of its profits to the Sade Foundation.

Hague must also donate 1,000 hours of his time to an organization that protects the health and safety of animals, the company said. He still faces potential criminal charges in Vancouver.

"The company finds Mr. Hague's personal behavior unacceptable and outside the bounds of our high standards and expectations of all of our staff," Centerplate wrote in a statement. "We do not condone nor can we overlook the mistreatment of animals and Mr. Hague's personal misconduct."

The Giants and 49ers both issued statements on the allegations, condemning any abuse of animals.

"While we deplore Mr. Hague's personal actions, it should in no way reflect upon the hundreds of dedicated Centerplate employees who admirably serve our fans at AT&T Park each and every day," the Giants' statement said. The 49ers also said that Hague's actions did not reflect on Centerplate employees working at Levi's Stadium.

Centerplate faced a conflict with its own employees at AT&T Park last year when a union representing concession workers staged a strike claiming workers had not received pay increase for several years. The union finally reached an agreement with Centerplate last month.

The offender resides in Vancouver. The company is based in
Connecticut. The company is addressing the terrible behavior
of the CEO. Both professional sports franchises have condemned
the behavior but they still have contracts that need to be enforced.
Perhaps they will change vendors or insist that the CEO be
replaced. But because these to teams operate in California it is
a great opportunity to take a cheap shot at the state. How pathetic.
FR is also based in California. Why not make that connection too?

I’d like it if all the animal charities refused to take his community service, sending him to jail for failure to meet conditions.

That wouldn't work with my dog. He would just lick the grease off.

He knows the difference between my fingers and the food I am holding out for him. The former makes the latter possible. He does not bite the former.

If I were king, Vick would have been stripped, smeared with bacon grease from head to toe, and locked in a dog pound over night. The next day, his miserable remains would have been hosed into the sewer for rats to feast on what the dogs left behind.

We pay these guys an obscene amount of money to get themselves ion top condition to beat the hell out of each other. We reward them based on the damage they do and then we are amazed that this same aggressive violent behavior carries over into their personal lives.

I have a moral turpitude clause in my contract, why not one in this one?

I emailed the Board of Directors that demon has no place in leadership

I did the same, also told them I would organise a protest at every venue they have an account with urging a consumer boycott until they terminate the scumbag...

I don’t know if there is such a clause. But lets’ say that there is. So what?
If the individual is sanctioned in a serious manner or discharged by
the company should that mean anything? You say that your contract
includ. es a moral turpitude clause and I assume that you have
coworkers who have similar clauses. If one of them violates their
contract and his/her behavior becomes a public issue is that a
reflection on you and your company? Yah, let’s just see if we can
out-liberal each other see who can be the most indignant. Like to
see contracts pulled from your company due to the non-business
related bad behavior by a big shot? Didn’t think so.

Have you ever seen an American football game? Michael Vick is a quarterback, do you know what that means?

I teach high school, and yes I am a conservative. Do I want to see people fired over bad behavior? D@MN STRAIGHT I do. Maybe you have not noticed, but on FR we get raked over the coals (rightly and wrongly) on a regular basis. In my district faculty members are terminated for bad behavior, and I have no problem with that.

So if he played the line or was a running rack it would be okay? Maybe we should just blame it on his being concussed, hey there is an excuse they can all use.

No. I was merely responding to your comment, “get themselves ion top condition to beat the hell out of each other.” Since Michael Vick is a quarterback, that isn’t true.

I’d like to see a pack of feral dogs “repurpose” him but that’s just me.

Michael Vick has never been sacked, Never been the victim of a late hit? He has never tried to tackle some one that picked off an interception from him?

I'll take your word for it but it sure seems unlikely to me.

I'm sure he's been sacked, possibly even late hit, but I am sure it wasn't by himself.

Perhaps he has. I'm sure his coaches prefer he didn't. Either way, it wouldn't be more than a few plays a years, and that's certainly not what he is paid for anyways.

“In my district faculty members are terminated for bad
behavior, and I have no problem with that.”

As it should be. For the record, I substitute teach besides
holding other positions. I hope they throw the book at this
CEO and his company should probably terminate him. But, my
original point was to address a poster who just had to
drag the state of California into the issue. There was no
valid reason to do that. Yes, there are many stupid things
perpetrated by the lib leadership of this state and they
deserve the scorn of all of us. I know “on FR we get raked
over the coals (rightly and wrongly)on a regular basis”.
I’ve probably been on this board a little longer than you
so I am aware. There are more FReepers from California than
anywhere else and I sometimes choose to defend the state
from those who falsely imagine we are all of the liberal
ilk.

In this particular case not only is California irrelevant
to the issue but I see nothing which implicates the two
professional sports franchises mentioned. Sorry that you latched on to a non-issue. Perhaps I could have made
myself more clear although I thought I did.

Fair enough, I may have been a bit over sensitive about the subject material, leading me to focus on something that was not your intent.
