What was with that beige suit Obama was wearing? (vain vanity)

All through the "I don't have a strategy" speech, it was also, "I have no sense of how to dress appropriately to the seriousness of my duty."

Did anyone else notice that natty, cream-colored suit? It made me think of the tropics, of a vacation in Panama. Barack, the girl from Ipanema. I don't believe I have ever seen another president dressed in that manner, like a soot suit, or something from the seventies...

Well, here are some of Trumans suits.
He didn’t much favor black suits while President.

IIRC Eisenhower favored brown or grey also.

Its not the suit thats the problem, its the man in it.

Think of it as his rendition of Chairman Mao Tan. Probably one Moochie brought back from her trip to the Glorious Nation of China.

I like white suits.
Thats a really retro statement, but not all that retro. I remember when young running my daily couple of miles down the bayshore in Manila, and I would usually run into my grand-uncle taking his morning constitutional complete with white suit, cane and pith helmet. He got respect.
And then there’s Tom Wolfe.

His beige suit reminds me of the one Barney Fife wore when he went out with Andy and the girls. All that is missing is Barney’s hat and bowtie.

You are right the individual suited is what demands respect! In this case it is self evident of the lack of! Even though be it a white suit we all know it would be empty on surrender.

Since his popularity continues to plummet, could it be an attempt by him (or more likely his handlers) to "re-image" himself-- to distance himself from the "old, unpopular" Obama, to the "new, hopeful" Obama?

It seems reminiscent to me of the time when Jimmy Carter, in the midst of the Iran hostage crisis, was taking hits for being wimpy and indecisive. All of a sudden, he started parting his hair on the other side which, to a lot of people, somehow gave him a more "decisive" look.

it is summer (August) it is HOT, near 100 degrees here, a cool, beige suit is, to me, pefectly appropriate. Why would anyone wear a black or dark blue suit under these conditions???

maybe because dark blue is the color of professionals....??

Reagan’s suits were a dark brown. Plus, brown was an in color in the 80s.
