Joan Rivers is in critical condition after she stopped breathing during a medical procedure on Thursday, police sources tell The Post.

The E! Fashion critic, 81, was a patient at Yorkville Endoscopy on East 93rd street near Third Avenue in New York City, police sources told The Post.

After she stopped breathing, a 911 call was placed at around 9:40 a.m.

TMZ reports the caller said, “We have somebody in either cardiac or respiratory arrest.”

She was reportedly rushed to Mount Sinai hospital.

One is sedated, not anesthetized for an endoscopy.

My guess would be too much anesthetic. Joan is old, and the older you get, the harder some drugs hit you. I have to fight for my life with dental assistants, for example, as 1/4 the normal dose of anesthetics is enough.

I cannot imagine a world without Joan Rivers…funniest woman ever. Prayers for her full recovery.

Pharmboy,What do you think of pharmacogenetics? I’m considering it, as a doc I knew decades ago told me that doctors, nurses, emergency techs would probably kill me with drugs trying to save my life should I be in an accident….

I guess I'm an outlier, but I've always had sedation for my medical procedures.

I even got knocked out when I had my tubes tied...I didn't want to hear the nurse's laughter.

So you’re saying she had twilight sleep?

After her defense of Israel I can’t help but wonder if there wasn’t a islamist in or near the OR.

Joan is a talented, energetic and intelligent woman in spite of her often-crude jokes. I wish her well.

Yes, it was Propofol that was misused by Jackson.

IMO Ketamine is safer than Propofol... It does have the side effect of emergence reactions in some people though. You could at one time buy Ketamine in rural farm supply stores for anesthetizing animals. This was stopped when it became widely known that it was an addictive dissociative psychedelic.

OH I think she is liberal to a point, but she is more Jew at heart than most.....At 80 she would remember the truth about the Holocaust.

If you fall in the parking lot of a hospital, they call 911. It’s more a transport thing rather than an inability to stabilize.

Sounds like a heart attack to me. This stuff happens all the time with the elderly.

They cannot treat a heart attack. They cannot treat a stroke. The 911 is for transport. They stabilize (if possible) and transport.

I think the media has been out to kill her over the last few weeks. Going out of their way to push her buttons.

Well really glad it worked out for you but these types of tests are very invasive. My family has never had even one case of colon cancer since the beginning of time. So I am not planning to have a colonoscopy unless I have some kind of problem. My middle name is fiber. I don’t think they push endoscopes anyway unless you have a real problem.

Not a twilight sleep (which produces an amnesia effect).

Just heavily sedated with something like IV Valium or Versed. I had 3 endoscopies when I had a bile duct obstruction.

Each time I had 5 mg of Versed. I remember I knew what was going on and could not care less. :) Versed is a wonderful drug.

The science is developing nicely, despite the pharma industry. Why? Well, pharmacogenetics cuts down on market size, something marketing people try to avoid!

That aspect aside, it is as inevitable as smaller, more powerful computer chips were and still are. Market forces will slow its development, but the science will march on.
