BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Federal authorities say an East Texas man has admitted to deliberately driving his $1 million car into Gulf waters so that he could collect insurance on the vehicle.

Authorities announced Tuesday that 39-year-old Andy Lee House of Lufkin has pleaded guilty to wire mail fraud.

They say he purchased a Bugatti Veyron and had it insured for $2.2 million. The elegant vehicle is considered one of the fastest in the world.

The Veyron says “Look how much money I can waste”.

What a dummy all he had to do was to park it near a taco stand and it would be gone in seconds.

Bugatti has traditionally had an ovular grille.

I never heard of modern Bugatti. Thought it was dead. Made one of the rarest of cars back in the classic age. Only 8.

I don’t like “racing” cars generally since the ‘50s, I like real cars. Some are OK for sure to look at, but I have to say I think this is a bit ugly.

Sorry, the name just came to me. Type 41/Royale. This says only 6, but I swear I remember the 8 qty.

IIRC, if you include the prototype (which was destroyed) there were seven. I guess the Royale proves that even wealthy heads of state can face a cash crunch...

I saw a Veyron (sporting Saudi plates) in the valet parking section of the Mall of Dubai earlier this year.I thought about trying to hotwire it but decided that 10 years in an Arabian prison wasn't worth it.

Koenigsegg Agera S will blow the doors off the Veyron.

Look it up for yourself.

I did.

Only 940 hp?

Pssh. Lightweight.

The Veyron pushes 1200 horses.

(seriesly. Both are fine cars. I’d rather have the Bugatti though.)

Yeah, but Christian von Koenigsegg is the genius behind his auto efforts, vs. the enormous VW group, with access to Audi, Porsche technology. (Audi has won 24 hours of Le Mans something like 12 of the last 13 years)

The air is very thin up where these rich boys play with their super-cars. So they go to an airstrip in southern Sweden, and do rolling starts, 0-300-0 kph, 0-200 kph, etc.

In comparison to the Veyron, the Agera is indeed a lightweight. It’s around 1,000 lb lighter, although I still wouldn’t call a 3,200 lb car light.
