The delusions of anti-Israel conservatives
American Thinker ^ | August 24, 2014 | Ben Cohen

Posted on 08/24/2014 6:10:19 AM PDT by right-wing agnostic

In 1948, the argument for the creation of Israel was a moral argument; the argument against the creation of Israel was based on an assessment of America’s national interest. Almost seventy years later Israel is an economic and military powerhouse, with a rapidly growing population, while her traditional enemies are weaker than ever.

At the present time, most of those who argue against the continued existence of Israel attempt to base their arguments on moral grounds. Still, a small and noisy group of conservatives contend that our support for Israel undermines our standing in the region, and threatens our national interests. Philip Giraldi, Mark Perry, and others, continue to advance this argument despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

No...they are out there. A person I've known for many years has come out as one of the "anti-Israel" sots in the last year or so.
Quite surprising to me as he has always been, and as far as I know still is, a very pro-defense, pro-U.S.A. conservative in all manners.
He is a former (retired) DOD security specialist and rather worldly person. I have been surprised, and of late annoyed, by his increasingly virulent anti-Israel comments. Turning into a full-blown looney, which I have told him, over this matter.

I believe that there are those who see support of Israel as not in the interests of the US (deluded and stupid), and that their view is not really anti Semitic like that of the left, which really does have an animus for Israel and Jews. But no one is going to convince me that they are “conservatives”.

The actual number of anti-Israel conservatives is probably miniscule.

Most of the people I know who this author might describe as "anti-Israel" conservatives are really just "America-first" conservatives, and really don't give a damn about the troubles facing other countries around the globe that are not U.S. allies in the true sense of the word.

Jews have survived the destruction of a Jewish state, more than once.

Deut 32:8. “When the Most High gave nations their lot, when He separated the sons of man, He set up the boundaries of peoples according to the reckoning of the children of Israel.”

The State of Israel will stand or fall based on what Jews believe about the existence of that State Of Israel. If they believe it was created by the nations of the world, it can be uncreated by the nations of the world. If they believe it was created only by force, then force can take it down.

That probably explains his attitude. I know someone with a similar background, and he has told me in the past that U.S. intelligence officials have long considered Israel one of the biggest risks the U.S. faces in terms of espionage, theft of military secrets, etc.

Are there really people foolish enough to believe that if Israel is destroyed the Islamists will leave everyone else alone?

I support Israel and Jewish conservatives in general.

problem is those, like the progressive types in Brooklyn and elsewhere, who welcome with open arms, the Marxists like DeBlasio and zer0 and then are in shocked amazement when these folks want to either destroy Jews and Israel or fund those who will.

these folks will shake their heads in disbelief as they are lead to the cattle cars.....

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Patrick Buchannan is the prototypical anti-Israel conservative, and nobody in their right mind would call him Libertarian.

I tend to think of the Libertarians as universally indifferent to foreign affairs (often to the point of delusion of course) but not specifically targeted. Mind you there are plenty of wingnuts in the Libertarian movement (as there are in the conservative movement and of then the majority of devoted lefties are all wingnuts). Some of those wingnuts probably buy into the BDS hogwash.

Yes, I do include Ron Paul as a wingnut.

N.B.: Half the population of Qatar are foreigners, both Indian and Pakistani. 40% are Arabs, and 10% are Shiites originally from Iran. However, the Iranian minority tend to create nuisance, so are often suppressed by the Arab minority. In total, it is still 77.5% Muslim.

Only 2.1 million people total.

This means that if they got a sudden inrush of non-Muslims, it could result in a coup making them a secular country.

Just saying.

That’ possible, I wouldn’t know because I wrote off Buchanan as a nut years ago.

You have to admit that the Libertarians out number the Buchanan types though and their foreign policy positions are pretty much the same.

Israel would have preferred to use the Suez Canal as a natural barrier between themselves and Egypt; President Carter twisted their arm and forced them to give it back in return for peace. The first President Bush forced Israel to negotiate with the PLO, something they didn’t want to do. President Clinton forced Israel to cede territory to the Palestinian Authority, territory later used to launch suicide bombings from. Finally, president Obama has repeatedly pressured Israel into doing things they don’t want to do.

Emphasis mine.

The author is implying that Israel does not have the power to make decisions in its own best interest ... even when the antagonist, so to speak, is the whiny ponce Obama. However, elsewhere he states that Israel is militarily and economically powerful.

It seems like a contradiction: an economically and militarily power state that has to jump at the word of Barry Obama.

The foreigners in these countries have no voting rights and limited ability to own real property.
Most have no rights at all and are treated like slaves.
Go to Kuwait and watch .
Unreal.

The vast majority of conservatives support Israel, unlike the majority of liberals, who would love to see Israel wiped off the face of the earth.
