Doctor Who fans, how was it?

Posted on 08/24/2014 5:10:55 AM PDT by MNDude

I understand a new season of Doctor Who with a new but older Doctor premiered last night. I didn't see it however. Just curious to hear impressions.

Usual confusion from the Doctor but I think Capaldi will settle in just fine and make the character his own.

I liked it. Typical Brit TV show, took a little bit to get going.

Strax was typically absurd and funny. I think Peter Capaldi will do well.

Nice combo of Tom Baker, Pertwee, and McCoy. Capaldi can throw dialogue like the best, and Coleman can keep up. A nice start.

Strax is the space alien equivalent of George S. Patton. It’s good to have him on your side, even when you sometimes have to restrain him.

Strax is hilarious.

We’ve got to rescue the doctor from the dangers of the city. Then perhaps we can dissolve him with acid.

Matt Smith was great. He will be missed.

He is a good bit of gun toting comic relief. Strax shows sometimes it takes cold alien steel energy weapons to solve a problem.

The medical examination was very humorous as well.

He is my new favorite character. Anyone smell a spinoff?

Dr was muddled and confused, but that happens with the regenerations.

I hope he does settle in soon. Ep 1 was choppy and disconnected.

Surprisingly, I didn’t have much trouble ‘seeing’ him as the new Doctor.

Clara seemed to have problems ‘seeing’ him as the Doctor initially, but she was accepting by the conclusion. Of course, for her, it was accept or be replaced by a new companion. :)

There was the introduction of the new character at the end with the robot.

I personally think she’s a dark manifestation of the tardis. The Garden they were in at the end seems to roughly follow the interior of the main tardis “bridge”.

I’ve been disconsolate since David Tennant left. To me, he portrayed the real spirit of the Doctor.

I have to be careful judging the “new” Dr. Who because I did NOT like Matt Smith when I first saw him as the Dr. I thought “where the h3ll did they find this dweeb? No way this is going to work”. But it did and I loved him!

Dr. Who is weird, too weird for me sometimes, but it’s a keeper.

I’m not sure how much of the BBCs budget comes from taxes still, but when public funds pay for sci-fi it’s usually awful.

I get all bent out of shape about how the universe seems to revolve around London - but I do have to remember that the people of the United Kingdom/Great Britain/Britain/whatever they are this year are forced to chip in for the utter dross that’s put in front of them.
