Students at the nation’s second largest school district will be shielded from prosecution and sent to administrators for low-level offenses as part of a sweeping reform to the way school police respond to bad behavior.
Zoe Rawson of the Community Rights Campaign says students caught fighting or possessing alcohol or marijuana will receive interventions by a guidance counselor or school administrator, a shift that will prevent students, especially minorities, from becoming mired in the criminal justice system. …

Didn’t know there was any discipline. Thought the schools were just holding pens paid for by tax payers.
In other words, it's now okay to fight in school. It is also now okay to bring alcohol or marijuana to school.
As a veteran urban teacher, I will tell you that "interventions" rarely work. The misfits only see them as attention-getting opportunities.
What could go wrong?
Schools now think they are above the law. Failure to report these things is a crime isn't it?\ How long before they are adding sex assault to this list?

Really? Hmm. I got sneak-attacked in high school while I was sitting on the interior courtyard steps; got kicked in the head, resulting in my nose being broken. I think the police were involved. (And that was the late 80s.) Teenagers will do much worse these days.

It’s a forlorn hope, but it would be interesting if the school district would immediately establish a long term tracking project to measure impacts on enrollment patterns. Normalizing the schools for disruptive, combative, and drugged up students makes them toxic for the good kids of all races who are trying to do well. I don’t know how far down the slippery slope Los Angeles already may be, but here in DC, the public schools cratered 40 years ago, with the middle class almost entirely fled to the suburbs or in private schools. DC is now trying to claw its way back, and thanks to gentrification a few schools have been reclaimed, but the loss of the middle class is easy to accomplish and very hard to reverse.
