Michael Brown autopsy: No signs of struggle in fatal shooting

A preliminary autopsy commissioned by the family of Michael Brown suggests that there was no sign of a struggle in his death, and that all but one of at least six gunshot wounds in his body were likely survivable, according to Dr. Michael Baden, a renowned New York forensic pathologist who performed a private autopsy after a Ferguson, Mo., police officer killed the unarmed, black 18-year-old.

Baden said in his preliminary autopsy that he believes Brown would not have been able to survive the bullet that hit at the top of his head and traveled through his brain.

Appearing Monday before reporters in the sanctuary of the Greater St. Mark Family Church in St. Louis, Baden and three of the family’s attorneys went through the diagram of Brown’s wounds that was released with the autopsy.

“Baden said his examination suggested that none of the six bullets was fired at point-blank range, but all were fired from at least one to two feet away.”

4 of the 6 shots hit him in the arm apparently, which explains why he kept coming, forcing the cop to take the 2 head shots to stop his advance. The shot to the top of his head was probably the last shot and hit the top of his head because he was on the way down from the first head shot when it hit.

Simply having a doctor examine Officer Wilson could reveal signs of a struggle.

I hear (although I haven’t been able to confirm it) that he is in a hospital somewhere with a broken eye socket.

Why not? Gabby Giffords did.

The one in the top of his head was where the bullet went in. The same bullet exited through the eye.

290# 6’4” have already committed multiple assaults and tried to take away the officer’s gun, so what would you have done? I asking this straight out?

I read the whole article, and nothing in the article supports the headline. Baden was actually noncommittal about whether there was a struggle, saying that the condition of the police officer would shed light on that. Baden merely said that some abrasions on Brown likely occurred when he fell; he did not say that this proved there was no struggle. The LA Times fans the flames . . .

I assume he just missed and hit the guys arm instead of his chest, then went for the double tap to the head as a last resort to stop the giants advance.

Which would have impacted his line of sight.

There was also the positioning of the body, which was face-down.

My somewhat rudimentary understanding of physics says that if Brown was stationary (either standing or kneeling) or backing away the force of the hits would have put him onto his back.

However if he was charging, momentum would have continued carrying him forward despite the force of the shots. Putting him face down.

Does that make sense/sound reasonable?

I heard Baden say 1 foot. But later clarified to “from 1 to 30 feet”.

Just out of curiosity — After seeing what Brown did to the smaller male store owner and hearing about the struggle that he got into with the “male” police officer, just hypothetically, what do you think Brown would have done to a female police officer if he got close enough to her...hypothetically.

How would that story be told...just curious.

So how many autopsy’s are going to be done before we get the facts?

The reason the FEDS have taken the body for ANOTHER autopsy is to prevent someone from requesting and getting an independent Toxicology Test performed.

Remember , in the Trayvon Martin case, the Judge suppressed Tox reports because there was no indication that Martin had 'recently' ingested drugs.

Same thing with this Brown case. Prior to the incident, he was robbing a Liquor Store, which proves he wasn't doing drugs at that moment (it doesn't, but that is the way the FEDS and JUDGE will rule).

the first 4 shots only hit the guys arms, which is why he didn't go down. Officer thought he might be dealing with a PCP situation and switched to the two head shots to stop the advance. The 2nd head shot apparently hit him on the way down and thus the top of the head entry.

“Baden’s report also notes the shots could have from within 2 feet.”

I allso heard the autopsy showed the shots were to the front of Brown’s body. So that seems to validate the eye witness (on the more recently released video) that Brown, after removing himself, had turned back and gone toward the cop.

Myself, I’m just holding Officer Wilson to the same standard he’d apply to everyone else. Meaning that if you or I shot an unarmed person six times and twice in the head then we’d be under arrest and we’d have already been arraigned and looking forward to ‘splainin’ ourselves in court. Support the cops all you want, but if you were to trade places with Officer Wilson you’d be up sh*t creek without a paddle and you know it.

So you’re saying that every police officer should be arrested after any type of shooting?
