The GOP senate caucus at the time let the Alaska voters know that they would be forgiven for voting against Murkowski in the primary if they would vote against the GOP nominee (Miller) in the general.
“Jim DeMint chides GOP senators for protecting Lisa Murkowski”
“It was bad enough to watch my colleagues work to support her in the primary after she had built a record of betraying conservatives principles, writes DeMint. But watching them back her after she left the party and launched a campaign against the Republican nominee was more than I could bear.”
“DeMint revealed some details from the closed-door Senate Republican caucus meeting Wednesday.
One senator after another stood up to argue in favor of protecting her place on the committee a position she will no doubt use in her campaign against Joe Miller, the conservative Republican nominee, writes DeMint.”
It was sad when DeMint left the Senate, he had integrity which is sorely lacking amongst most.
I don’t remember the democrats promising to give Lieberman his assignments if he won his independent bid. But they ended up doing so anyway, and he pretty much stayed democrat.
This was one of those early “establishment” attacks on the conservative candidates, and one of the more egregious, although given Lisa’s record it could be they were more scared that she’d switch to the democrats (at the time, they actually thought they’d win control of the senate, while stabbing conservative candidates in the back).
