100 Tuxedo Cats Left at Shelter
Newser ^ | Aug 16, 2014 | Newser Editors

If you're partial to black and white "tuxedo" cats, an animal shelter in Novato, Calif., would like to talk. It seems someone has dropped off more than 100 of the cats over the last 18 months. The last dropoff occurred Monday, when a car pulled up to the Marin Humane Society and left behind three boxes with 24 cats. It was the fourth such occurrence in the last 18 months. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that all the cats, which range in age from kitten to full-grown, appeared to be in good health, with no fleas or diseases. The unidentified person leaving the cats has been caught on surveillance tape—and the shelter wants to get in touch to explain how spaying and neutering works.

I’ve got a Velcro kitty too, and she’s a handful. All the best to your pride.

I like the spot on her nose, reminds me of my Spunky, my grey and white who had three kittens, one a grey tuxedo cat, we named Greystone. Greystone passed in 2006 at the age of 5 from kidney failure. B-( His brother, G.W., aka “Dubya,” passed in 2011 from cancer and the last kitten, “Whitey,” in 2012. Whitey looked like a Snowshoe, she looked like “Grumpy Cat” with longer legs. We got Spunky and the kittens in 2001. I still have Spunky, she is laying on the floor next to me as I type so I have Mom and another cat, Rascal. I moved to a new apartment, I had to give up the house since my mother passed away and the cats are just beginning to adjust to the new pace.

She’s a he, but don’t worry - I won’t tell him.

Sounds like you had quite a family of kitties.

Been wondering how to get one to NJ.

* * *

I’ve actually had very good luck transporting cats in planes. When I was in grad school in Chicago, my kitty went back and forth with me from Texas to Chicago several times. She wasn’t thrilled but not traumatized either. Then my husband and I went to live for a semester in France, and took my babygirl kitty Georgina with us (she was a former feral and literally wouldn’t eat for anyone but me, so we took her with!). On the way over, she got to ride in the cabin with us (thank you, Air France!) but on the way back, Continental made her ride in the hold. No problem either way. We once even adopted a cat we saw on a web site in Virginia, when we were in Texas. My BIL was traveling soon from Virginia to TX and agreed to bring us the kitty. Again, no worries. Unless cats are in bad physical shape to start, they’re mostly good (if complaining! LOL!) passengers.

I've been cross country on Amtrak. Not in the sleeper car though. It was fun. You miss a lot on an airplane, mainly the view. I would not miss being manhandled by the TSA. Plus ahmad and mohammad tend not to take Amtrak so it's cool. You may take animals on Amtrak but they still have to ride in the luggage car. Still beats the department on an airplane. amtrak sleeper car photo: Amtrak sleeper car a981.jpg amtrak luggage car photo: Superliner Coach Car P1060379.jpg amtrak luggage car photo: Amtrak SuperLiner Sightseer Lounge Car AmtrakSightseerLoungeCar.jpg

That train looks almost empty, imagine how much taxpayer money is wasted keeping those things moving

This room is a lounge car, not a coach car. Is where you go to eat/smoke et cetera. These cars have special windows for viewing the scenery. However I suspect all cars are non smoking but it’s hard to say. When I rode Amtrak they had smoking areas but they limited the areas to only certain cars.

If the room looks empty it may be this picture was taken when the train was stopped and people were loading/unloading.
