The Walking Dead’s Daryl Dixon Could Be Gay
New York Magazine ^ | 8/15 | Anna Silman

Posted on 08/15/2014 10:29:37 AM PDT by nickcarraway

The sexuality of fan favorite Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) has long been a source of speculation for Walking Dead fans, and in an interview with comicbook.com, series creator Robert Kirkman addressed the question directly. When asked whether Daryl's being homosexual was a possibility they had considered, Kirkman said, “All I can say is that it’s been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing … we’ll tackle it in the show.” The interviewer followed up by asking whether AMC would be okay with Daryl being gay, to which Kirkman responded, “For the record, they absolutely would.” Judging by the season-five trailer there aren't a lot of quiet periods in our future (couldn't they have addressed this when we were hanging out at that damn farmhouse?), but hey, you never know.

"The scene were Axel asked Carol if she was gay because of her short hair was hilarious."

LOL, he just had no doubt. And she wasn't pleased.

"She went from meek and frightened woman to one of the hardest characters on the show. “Just look at the flowers Lizzy”

She's undergone a transformation, no doubt. 1st & 2nd season Carol grated on my nerves. Now, well...I wouldn't want to have a cold if she was around.

I think if older shows were being produced today...you’d have to do this kind of stuff.

Bonanza: Hoss would have to be the gay guy.

Gunsmoke: Doc or Kitty would be bisexual.

Gilligan’s Island: The Skipper and the Professor would have something going.

Edith from All in the Family would have a weekend affair with some gal from her old high school.

Space Ghost would take up with one of the bad guys for a relationship.

Fred from Sanford and Son would wake up one morning with Ester and another female cousin in his bed.

Mr Ed would eat hay with another male horse and express his admiration on the muscles the other horse had.

All the guys on McHales Navy would be gay.

Alf would admit he had a thing for Big Bird.

And Tony from the Sopranos would have been in love with some other mobster from the Rhode Island crew.

just enough to get pregnant anyways

............

I don’t watch the show. I tried to watch once and there were 2 little girls were allowed to wander on their own and who actually played with a trapped zombie. One of the girls ended up making the other become a zombie and then they shot the healthy girl.

These were children.

That human race doesn’t deserve to survive.

Probably not. Really the ones who obsess on this are the narrow minded folks. Gays happen, gay characters happen, but there’s still plenty of not gay characters all over the place. Really the griping crowd just needs to get over it, they share the planet with gays, have been all their lives.

I don’t want it pushed in my face. Like cripplecreek said, there’s a lesbian, but going this route with the second-billed character would not be good.

It’s also ridiculous. Daryl looks & acts about as gay as John Wayne.

A dying human race in that situation would try to protect females.

She was severely mentally ill. No one was safe around her, least of all the baby, Judith, whom she said she planned to kill next.

Everyone has different tastes. You are describing what was probably the most powerful episode to date, but the story was far more than just those scenes. Those two girls had been through Hell, and it took its toll.

Earlier episodes focused on that very question with those two girls and the woman who was caring for them - what is the dividing line between surviving as a human or becoming a monster? How do you deal with such horrors as an adult" How do you raise a child with such horrors? What happens when a seemingly strong person breaks?

The episode you saw was the endpoint of that thread. It was damn hard to watch, but in context it had a great deal of meaning beyond some splatterfest gore scene.

A gay Daryl Dixon would conjure up images of the “Deliverance” hillbilly.

It would kill the show.

Not Lizzie and the whackjobs. Lizzie was the equivalent of today's bleeding heart liberals towards the zombies. You would have needed to see several other episodes to understand what happened there.

I don’t watch the show.

That would be the issue, right there.

Even “Turn” has a gay character but it was brought up in one episode and his sexuality was NOT celebrated. It was used to force him to spy for the British.

The actor who plays Daryl wouldn’t risk his career, either.

Much ado about nothing.

Andrea was a civil rights attorney and her liberal attempts to bring everybody together got her killed.
