Police in Ferguson, Mo. plan to release the name today of the officer who shot and killed an unarmed man – a Saturday shooting that sparked days of clashes in the streets of the St. Louis suburb.

Chief Thomas Jackson told ABC News that authorities will meet later this morning to figure out the best way to release the officer’s name. Police previously declined to identify the officer due to safety concerns.

“We’re learning and we’re moving forward. This all starts now to heal, to just make things better,” Jackson told ABC News.

Nixon thinks releasing the officer's name will help in Ferguson's healing process.

"I was pleased to hear the chief indicate this would be a day in which finally that initial name would come out, and we’ll work to make sure that his family and there’s security around that," Nixon told ABC News. "I think those kind of concrete steps of transparency leading to justice are vitally important now to heal the old wounds that have been made a fresh by this difficult and horrific situation."

Ferguson faced four consecutive nights of violence and riots following the weekend shooting death of Michael Brown, 18. Brown, who was unarmed, had his hands raised when he was fatally wounded, witnesses say.

Peaceful protests followed Thursday, after Nixon swapped local and county officers – many wearing riot gear – for state highway patrol troopers. Captain Ron Johnson, the leader of the highway patrol, walked side-by-side with demonstrators Thursday.

I wonder why they did not refer to Nixon as a Democrat or a Governor in this article?

There is no best way to release his name without putting him at undue risk unless you immediately transfer him across the country.

Why would they release the cop’s name.
It serves no purpose, except to inflame and already bad situation.

Does Nixon even have a first name? (Couldn’t tell by reading the article). Maybe he’s like Madonna or Prince or Charo?

I’m guessing he got threats from Holder.

Great news! Now the officer and his family can go into hiding and fear for their lives.

I don’t know who was right or wrong in this incident, but the media is wrong for putting this officer and his family in such danger.

Apparently not. I guess you're just supposed to know who "Nixon" is. I'm not sure journalists even take courses in expository writing anymore.

Here’s a little info on this guy who is only known as Nixon.
+++++++
State Rep. Nick Marshall (R) is attempting to impeach Nixon for a November 2013 executive order that required the Missouri Department of Revenue to accept joint federal income tax returns from same-sex couples who were married legally in other states. Marshall argues that the governor’s action violates the state constitution’s 2004 amendment that banned same-sex unions.

One of seven Republican co-sponsors of Marshall’s measure, state Rep. Mike Moon, filed a separate article seeking to remove the governor for not filling vacant legislative seats quickly enough.

The third attempt to oust Nixon is being advanced by state Rep. Rick Brattin (R), who claims the governor did not adequately punish officials at the state Department of Public Safety for releasing the names of more than 163,000 Missourians with concealed weapons permits to a Social Security Administration agent last year.

This cop is a sacrificial lamb. No good can come from releasing his name. Any violence against his family would be on the head of the officials in charge...but it will be too late by then. Someone needs to pull their big girl girdle up and tell these crowds BREAKING THE LAW to sit down and STFU until the full investigation is completed.

Perhaps some new black on black crime will distract the media. ..Ha! I made myself laugh on that one.

"Does Nixon even have a first name? (Couldn’t tell by reading the article)."

The article itself calls him "Gov. Jay Nixon".

The excerpt left off the first 2 words.

This guy's family life as they know it is over if this happens.

They will have to move to a majority white area for their own safetly. They may even have to change their name.

Their house now becomes a target.

This guy and his family's life is over as they knew it.

They have to release his name because some group named Hackers something has misidentified the police dispatcher as the cop so he and his family are in danger. Now that they’ve learned this blackmailing trick, they’ll continue to out the wrong person in the future. Hopefully, the cop’s family are safely far away from MO. No matter the outcome, they’ll never be able to return. Take a lesson from Zimmerman.

Jay Nixon. He was on the news yesterday, and; he was extremely tongue tied with - and you know, an uh etc. Specifically, he has great difficulty answering any question with a coherent sentence. Perhaps he has had a recent stroke or a blow to the head?
