Cowboys, Raiders brawl at practice

The brawl started when Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne slammed Raiders tight end Mychal Rivera to the turf by the sideline, just a few yards from a section of the crowd that was predominantly Raiders fans. There was an agreement that there would be no tackling at the practice, but Claiborne said he decided to take Rivera down after the tight end lowered his shoulder.

After Claiborne walked over Rivera and celebrated his tackle, Oakland receiver Greg Little rushed over to confront the cornerback. Within seconds, dozens of Dallas defenders and Oakland offensive players were brawling within reach of fans behind a fence.

"That passion, that's mostly what I'd hoped what we would get out of getting these teams together," said Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, who half-jokingly praised the remarkable power of Raiders offensive lineman Austin Howard's uppercut punches.

Another brawl broke out between the Cowboys' offense and Raiders' defense on the final play of the practice.

Here comes the big boss,
Come on let’s get it on!
Whoaohoh ohhhhhh
These cats were just like lightning,
It was a little bit frightening
We need a little more whitening ...

Yeah, just like the song.

Football is like ice hockey in that there is a lot of posturing happening among all the players on the field. I got ejected from a game in college because I took exception to a cheap shot on me...in front of the other teams bench. And I got a personal foul in my first preseason pro game when I was rather slow in giving the ball back to the ref after I had an interception...and maybe was mocking the other team.

I assume he’s divorced....at a high cost

My Wifey caught me with the boobs of a girl a third my age....that would be a 19 year old lass....being cupped in my hands

She’d have some Gloria Allred or like harridan on the horn in quark speed

And our 5 kids would beat my ass silly

I traveled the world for 20 years tanning kitty pelts....got that outta my system....I quenched the curiosity

Loyal to only one rib for nearly 20 years now....no complaints

But had I not sated my varietal lust before hand.....who knows

Fidelity is about character but it helps if wife does her part.

Two loser teams trying to get a little attention before the season starts. The NFL is competing with wrestling in staging these phony fracases.

Daryl Johnston was on a local sports talk show today, talking about Raiders-Cowboys scrimmages back in the days when the Cowboys and Raiders both held training camps in Southern California - he said the Cowboys were endlessly entertained by Al Davis, who used to simply walk onto the field during drills and announce that he'd seen enough of that particular drill, move on to the next - while coaches from both teams grinned and bore it.

But then, Davis had been a successful pro coach, a successful GM, commissioner of the AFL - before he reached his dotage old Al knew what he was doing. But Jerry Jones seems to have taken his cue from Al in the early days of his ownership and now he endlessly entertains football fans by appearing on the air and making silly, long-winded pronouncements that he isn't qualified to make.

The Patriots are big into these joint practice things, and I would be surprised if this kind of thing happens at his practice with Belichick standing on the sidelines. I think he lays down the law pretty firmly about this before they begin.

Both teams have to have strong coaches to do this without having this type of issue.

Shortened contact practice time and fewer exhibition games (old school) mean team-on-team practice makes sense.

Guys fighting in full gear (4 point chin strap, mouth piece face guards. shoulder pads, etc.) is hilarious.

If I made it to the NFL I’d be DAMNED if I’d risk injury or a career ender in a stupid brawl.

True, except when the guys weigh 250-330 lbs and are generally very muscular, and if someone falls the wrong way in a scrum of people, it’s all fun and games until someone tears an ACL!

Bingo - Jerry Jones inherited the Al Davis crown.

Al DID know what he was doing. He brought multiple SB teams to Oakland in the 70’s and 80’s. They were also in SBII vs the Packers.

Time passed Al by. Jerry fired the only guys who knew how to bring Super Bowls to Dallas. Now nobody with real coaching talent will work with him.
