LOLO - A man is in custody Sunday after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase Saturday evening just before 6:00 PM.

Montana Highway Patrol attempted to pull over the man who was driving a motorcycle heading south on highway 93 driving at about 85 miles-per-hour.

When pursued, the man kept driving and began weaving in and out of traffic, hitting speeds as high as 140 miles per hour.

At least he wasn’t on Streethawk doing hyper-thrust. At least he would be out of fuel in a minute or two.

Are you in Montana? I used to drive through there on the way to and from college. They had white crosses on the roadside (official, state issue, not put up by friends or relatives) to mark the sites of road fatalities. The fine for speeding was nominal, about $10 in those days.

I’m impressed.

I only got mine up to 120 on a straight, empty part of Rt 64 between Richmond and Hampton Roads.

I just HAD to see what it could do.

I thought that Montana did not have a speed limit?

I’m not sure, but I would hope that it still has common sense.

This thread is making me woozy. I always thought I wanted a motorcycle, until I actually rode on one. 30 MPH on the back of my buddy’s Honda Rebel (stop laughing! LOL) was enough for me. I don’t like the exposed feeling in traffic, and I couldn’t bring myself to trust that the bike was going to stay upright during a turn.

So yeah, four wheels and a windshield for me, I think.

I used to blip it up to 150 on the straights up until 5 years ago, but now, in my old age, (40s) keep it to the ton. Plus I ride vintage bikes now.

There is a speed limit in Montana.

Kicked in back in the late 90s IIRC.

Interstates are 65 mph for trucks and 75 for cars, pickups, bikes etc. (they will give you 80-82 at times but I stick to 79).

State highways are at 60 daytime for trucks and 70 for the rest of us (60 for cars at night, 55 for trucks I think).

Feds forced the state to knuckle under by threat of withholding highway funds.

I don’t like the exposed feeling in traffic

I have a Rokon Trailbreaker for back road and off road riding.

When I get the urge to ride on road, I use our 404 Unimog.

I fold down the windshield, remove the top and doors, and it's almost like being on a motorcycle, except with 7500 pounds of steel for protection, and 42 inch tires to be above things.

I know. God bless ‘em. Wyoming is what Montana used to be only not as big or as pretty at it. Ha.

I have no idea how fast I ever went on my bike; Jimmy Cater speedo only went to 85.

I pegged it plenty of times, but only the redline told me I’d hit top ten.

Hubby crashed a drag bike in Florida at a clocked 134mph and got up and walked away with some nasty road rash.
