You can bet that some idiot will steal one of those thinking
it's full of cash. It has to happen, it's unavoidable.

More choices. I can see flavored popcorn like I’ve seen in specialty stores.

I’m sure they will reduce prices according to their cost savings.

Well there goes another class of people who will not have any spending money - the poor hard working crooks.

Doesn’t this disenfranchise those incapable of operating them? Call the Attorney General!

Automate the fast food franchises and there go the entry level jobs! Duh — the SEIU and other low information idiots don’t get it.

Looks a lot more efficient than milling around in the crowd in front of the registers wondering which one of them is actually manned and where your place in line is.

"Notice that under the cover story of giving you more choices, they have put the drink machines out in the customer area, turning customers into their unpaid employees. If customers will work for free, why pay someone $15 an hour to do the same thing?"

Having customers pour their own drinks is nothing new, and hardly qualifies as turning the customers into "unpaid employees." As another poster said, when you have the choice to pour your own drink, you can control the amount of ice and can mix different flavors if you want to. It gives you more options, and it is scarcely a burden.

Yes, as operating costs go up, businesses have to adjust.
Like, the grocery laid off its baggers and makes you bag your own food. (And now they even charge you for the krappy elcheapo bags that break and spill all your chow on the asphalt).
And the service station is now a do-it-yourself gas hose, they make the customers serve themselves there, too.

and food purvayers have had automats for years, also vending machines galore. SO I do agree, McD’s will have mostly robotics or automat type serve=yourself stuff, soon

Yesterday I tried something new, too... a new burger joint lets you order online. this makes you enter your order so they don’t need as many orde-rtakers. And it saves you from having to wait 25 minutes on line at the pickup counter. I just walked in, she verfied what order I came for, and they handed it to me, and I was out of the place in under 30 seconds.

The store gets by with less labor expense... and I get my chow without their usual 20 minute wait.

(they were cooking my order while I was driving to pick it up)

some of these newfangled things are really quite good for the customers!

Automation is going to take a lot of bottom end jobs, especially the more they raise the minimum wage.

But automation will create better paying skilled jobs in return. Not as many jobs, but better paying skilled jobs.

The people screaming for a high minimum wage are just killing the people in those jobs.

You can choose to ignore reality, but sooner or later it’ll give you a swift kick right up the wazoo!

I usually have to repeat my order twice, and then it's incorrect 50% of the time. So... I'd rather place the order myself.

But some people, like my wife, would HATE this.

Go ahead call me a misogynist. But this would work for men.

Men know what part of the store the item they want is in and what color and what size. They calculate the cost plus tax before they get to the register, They know what size burger and what size fries and whether it will be a Pepsi or Mt Dew before they go inside. But women today....well..there's gonna be a line...

Reminded me of ordering Chinese delivery.

I NEVER, EVER, KNOW if they understood my order.

They never repeat it back and I’m left hoping I get what I ordered.

Thankfully, they always get it right.
