Dog Stolen at Gunpoint Reunited With Family
NBC Miami ^ | Friday, Aug 1, 2014

A dog that was stolen from its owners at gunpoint has been found roaming a South Florida street.

India, a 9-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, was found Friday morning walking down West Dixie Highway in Hollywood.

The dog was identified by her microchip after Hollywood code enforcement officers found her and took her to the Hollywood Animal Hospital. India, who had been taking medication for an intestinal infection, was in stable condition.

A family is worried their dog that was stolen at gunpoint is not taking its necessary medications. NBC 6's Gilma Avalos reports. Police said the dog was taken Wednesday at about 1:30 a.m. at 2134 Washington Street.

Owner Damica Clark said she was working a double-shift that day and her brother, Darren Clark, offered to dog-sit the terrier. Darren Clark said he took the dog for a walk and on his way back home from Young Circle, he said he was approached by a man near a grocery store on Washington Street. He said the man tried to sell him items he had on him, but Darren Clark tried walking away. That's when he says the man pressed the barrel of a gun against his rib cage.

When the suspect asked him to empty his pockets, he gave him his cellphone, police said. The suspect then snatched the dog leash and took the dog away. He fled in a dark colored SUV with hazed headlights, according to police.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Hollywood Police Department at 954-967-HELP or 954-967-4411. Tipsters can email or text hollywoodpdtips@hollywoodfl.org or contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.

The owner needs to find a better dog sitter

The dog was better off roaming the streets.

Same here.

Who would steal a 9-year-old dog? Well, perhaps for a dog-fighting ring. I think they use some dogs to train the fighting dogs to kill. But this still seems fishy.

There have been instances in Orange County (CA) where crooks broke into homes to and stole old pets when there was little else to steal.

I’ve had delivery people nearly have heart attacks because they pecked on the window to let me know a package was here.

The dogs always hit the glass snarling, frothing and full of teeth.

Well, I’d have a heart attack if YOUR dogs snapped and snarled at me — especially if I hadn’t seen them coming. LOLOLOL!

Not a Doberman, but as close as I could find.

Actually, you're pretty safe from her unless you're a mallard duck.

;D

Actually, you might be surprised.

I’ve had some *really* unlikely dogs spring to my defense.

I think they were just as shocked by their sudden courage as I was.

:)

Oh, absolutely.

My sweet little Chocolate Lab (a/k/a Shelley the Wonder Dog) is 39 pounds of cuddle and bounce. But on two occasions she stepped up admirably. A shady character rang the doorbell, and she bristled up and snarled and showed every tooth in her head. "Is that a pit bull?" "Yup. Long as I'm here you're o.k." Another time she turned on a dog that was stalking us as we walked through the neighborhood - she looked like the Devil. He decided he had urgent business elsewhere.

If there’s anything better than a good dog, I have not found it.
