MADISON TWP. —

The owner of the dog who attacked a 59-year-old woman at her Madison Twp. home Monday afternoon remains unsure if she wants the dog back.

Sheriff’s deputies said that Cindy Whisman, 59, was dead when they arrived at her ranch-style home at 4743 Eck Road in Madison Twp. at about 1:10 p.m. Monday. A 911 call was received at 1:03 p.m. from a neighbor who told dispatchers that she saw a woman being attacked by a dog, according to sheriff’s officials.

That dog, Polo, described at a pit bull by the owner, is now at the Animal Friends Humane Society, awaiting the outcome of the investigation by Butler County Sheriff’s detectives.

Julie Whisman, Cindy’s daughter and the dog’s owner, said today she wants to see the results of that investigation and better understand what happened before making a determination about Polo’s fate. She said after thinking about the situation for 24 hours, she is “indecisive.”

Cindy Whisman was a “sweet woman who loved music,” Julie Whisman said today.

Julie Whisman and her young son just moved with her mother and father in the past two months, but she said her mother had known the dog for years.

Polo had never showed any signs of aggression with her son or anyone else, Julie Whisman said.

Family members do have the option to get ownership of the dog back, pending a court hearing and an order by a judge, detectives said. If they opt to not keep the dog, it will be euthanized after the investigation is complete, detectives said.

Monday’s dog attack was the fourth serious dog mauling — and third fatality — to happen in southwest Ohio this year. It is the first fatal dog attack in Butler County since 1998, according to sheriff’s officials.

So this woman's pit bull kills her 59 year old mother in front of her own 2 year old son and she's indecisive about whether to have it put down.

According to a neighbor, “She thought they were playing back and forth like this, then all of a sudden she saw her on the ground and kept saying Polo, Polo, because that was the dog’s name, and she was rolling over" And according to a neighbor: "“It looked like it (the dog) took a chunk of her throat out around the jugular...”

But since this is the dogs first killing, it doesn't seem conclusive to the daughter, she'd like to understand the situation better. Pray for the child involved, and any other humans in contact with the beast.

The article keeps saying Monday’s Dog Attack. So if this just happened yesterday, the daughter might still be in a state of shock. Let’s hope she comes to her senses for the 2y/o’s sake. The Humane Society should’nt even be having this discussion with her if all just happened yesterday. Feeling are still raw.

While most Pitts don’t attack...most attacks are by Pitts.

Sudden PitBull Syndrome

Is there any other domestic creature with a track record of causing such human mayhem?

Big snakes? Horses? It sure seems like the PB in the neighborhood is a clear + present danger.

The question should be whether the victim’s family want just the killer dog killed or the owner as well.

In my neighborhood, that dog would be history. If she didn’t put it down, we would.

A friend of mine had a pitbull back around 1970, before anyone ever heard of them. That dog chewed his way through a chain link fence and pulverized a German Shepard's leg. These owners always talk about how nice and friendly they are, and that's true 99% of the time, until one day it isn't. It's like there's a switch in them that turns them into a killing machine, usually set off by the sight of another dog, however harmless. And until it happens those owners never believe that their lovable family pet is like that.

If that is the case I concur ... Despise those who fail to provide a cushion to people in these situations

Studies have shown that Pitt Bulls and their owners have roughly the same IQ.

I don’t see how that can be left up to the owner. Once a dog kills a person, or even severely attacks them, the dog has to be put down.

OK, because IT’S A DOG. Or a monkey, or whatever. Pet’s who kill need to be eliminated.

I’ve been so repulsed and shocked by the indecision that I forgot to consider what it’s going to be like for the neighborhood if this woman decides to keep her dog.

I think this gory death is traumatic for members of the neighborhood and very hard on all the responders who have to deal with this. If not for the normal considerations of one’s own family, then couldn’t this women get rid of the dog for the sake of everyone in the neighborhood?

I keep coming back to my reaction though, at Christmas, their dog is in the Christmas photo but Mom isn’t? I couldn’t look at an animal that killed my Mom, let alone feed it and play with it etc.

I was hung up on the thought that the city didn’t force her to have the dog put down. The neighborhood could probably force that decision if the city doesn’t. The dog would soon be dead if it was in my neighborhood.
