Sharknado 2: The Second One," set in New York, premieres July 30 on Syfy. The cable movie, which will also be in theaters for one night on August 21, is part of a whole "Sharknado Week" that kicked off Saturday, beating Discovery’s Shark Week to the bloody punch.

... The actual ratings — 1.4 million for the premiere — weren’t great.

... The TV movie "Sharknado," which was about exactly what it sounds like — a storm in which sharks funnel out of tornadoes to rain down on horrified victims — drew 318,232 tweets during its premiere last July.

Nielsen Social proclaimed the Syfy channel film the "most social TV movie of 2013," a piece of entertainment that seemed crafted for the online peanut gallery.

Well, rev up your chainsaws, because we have a sequel.

"Sharknado 2: The Second One," set in New York, premieres July 30 on Syfy. The cable movie, which will also be in theaters for one night on August 21, is part of a whole "Sharknado Week" that kicked off Saturday, beating Discovery’s Shark Week to the bloody punch.

A year on, it’s actually feasible that the original shark-infested romp, for all its horrible-on-purpose effects and referential one-liners ("We’re gonna need a bigger chopper!"), could actually join "Jaws" in the pantheon of must-see aquatic horror movies. The actual ratings — 1.4 million for the premiere — weren’t great.

Not long after the premiere, "Sharknado" hit theaters nationwide for a single night, a rarity for a TV movie. There were "Sharknado" figurines and Halloween costumes.

Acknowledging its schlocky success, a troupe of comedians from the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" crew — RiffTrax — brought the movie back to the big screen for some advanced wisecracking.

Ms. Reid, if you ever want a lifestyle change -- come hang out at old Ben's hovel.
I'll do the cooking, if you do the cleaning.

Trust me Ben, Reid today looks about as hot as that other Reid occupying the Senate.

She’s only 38. That’s young to me!

38 can look 50. The reverse is true, as well. Hard living ages a girl.

High mileage for model year.
Will need extensive reconditioning prior to resale.

Yeah, that picture is quite out of date. I think she popped up (out?) in a "bad plastic surgery" article about a decade ago.

I missed seeing Sharknado, and I thought she was not asked back for the sequel.

The SyFy channel has been doing everything it can to kill my enjoyment of SciFi, so I'll plan ahead for Sharknado 2, and try not to leave any wet paint around to grab my attention while it dries.

I haven’t watched SyFy in a long time for more than some Warehouse 13 that got old for me.

We went to the Riff-Trax theatre presentation of Sharknado with the MST3K guys offering their slams. I haven’t laughed so hard in years.

Do any of the sharks chomp Chris Christie? They should have some heavyset guy cast as the “Governor of New Jersey”. Oh the possibilities.

Have a shark choke on the fictional governor by trying to swallow too fast— that would work.

NBC/Universal has done for its offerings what BHO is doing to the country.

Warehouse 13 is but one of the shows they doomed to an early, whimpering demise.

With your MST3K reminder, I'm wondering if somebody at "SyFy" saw what crap they were going to be foisting on viewers, and decided to kill MST3K before it had a chance to rip the upcoming Original Movie offerings while part of the SyFy "family".

Defiance is not a bad series, neither is Legion. They also have an alternative future show coming out about a generation ship launched in the 60’s, that sounds interesting.

I recognized Robert Hays as the pilot right away.

The co-pilot and the air marshal looked familiar but wasn’t quite sure.

I sure hope he conquered his drinking problem.
