Freddie Prinze Jr. on His '24' Days: 'Kiefer was the Most Unprofessional Dude in the World'
The Hollywood Reporter ^ | 7/28/2014 | Hilary Lewis

Freddie Prinze Jr. had such an awful experience acting opposite Kiefer Sutherland in 24 that he "wanted to quit the business," he said.

The actor explained to ABC News that working with Sutherland was "terrible."

"I did 24, and it was terrible. I hated every moment of it," Prinze said. "Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That's not me talking trash. I'd say it to his face. I think everyone that's worked with him has said that."

I have a really hard time believing that a socialist would take a role playing a pro-government counter-terrorism agent.

I knew Kiefer’s ex-body double. He said the guy was really nice but a real drinker. Actually if you just happen to be in some dive bar in L.A. he might pick up the tab for everyone.

I’ve read that Sutherland is a notorious alcoholic.

Yeah, but Daddy got to be in a movie that had a character named Spearchucker.

Daddy also insisted on being paid scale for his few days work on Animal House. That little decision cost him many millons of dollars over the years.

Amazing how many confused Freepers think Jack Bauer and Queefer Sutherland are the same person. He’s a leftie actor playing a part, guys.

Since it was ABC, known troublemakers, I would have declined to answer that. Sometimes declining to answer says it all.

What role did Freddie Prinze, Jr. play? I don’t remember him in 24 and after looking quickly on IMDB, his character’s name still doesn’t ring a bell.

What did ring a bell though was noticing in IMDB, and recalling that Prinze, Jr had played “Donny Crane” in Boston Legal. Prinze, Jr playing Denny Crane’s alleged son was unforgettable for me because Prinze, Jr had seemed uncomfortable, very stiff, and had appeared to be reciting lines and posing for the camera rather than in the role.

What I’d read long ago about Sutherland was that he is very professional, but who knows what’s a press release and what’s the truth.

This might be also be a case where Sutherland granted permission or, in a run it up the flagpole mode, perhaps Sutherland suggested that Freddie Prinze, Jr. make a silly disparaging remark. They both would get their names in the news, Sutherland loses nothing and Freddie Prinze, Jr. gets a bit of a boost in publicity.

The great screenwriter William Goldman wrote, that in spite of how much importance is attached to ‘doing lunch’ in Hollywood, the lunches are really quite short, usually less than 30 minutes. He attributed that to the fact that actors can’t fake interest in anyone other than themselves for more than a half hour. I always assume actors are jerks no matter their screen persona.

Normally a reputation precedes someone...

I don't "follow" Hollywood in the least, but I have never heard before that Kiefer Sutherland was an asshole to work with...

Lots of people worked on the '24" series and I never heard a peep...

He was the director of field ops who was dating the character played by Katee Sackhoff. She was a spy for the Russians, and was also being threatened by an ex-boyfriend who got out of jail and came after her because she changed her name after getting off lightly on the murder rap that her boyfriend did serious time for.

Odd how he’s not very specific about the issues with Sutherland. He paints with a broad brush.

Was Kiefer late all the time? Did he not know his lines? Was he a prima donna? A whiner? High?

Hard to tell what Prinze is complaining about.

He didn’t seem to give any examples. Seems like sour grapes and a publicity stunt from Freddie.

It's called "acting."

It's about money.

And who's to say that government Jack Bauer works for isn't socialist itself.
