Would be easier to upload photos to a post, like on FB for example. personally i struggle a lot to figure out the img src code.

is there a way to do this?

Just open an account on imgur.com

There is a handy Firefox extension Rehost Image, which simplifies the process of getting an image uploaded.

You first get the image into your browser, either by finding it on the internet or by dragging it from a filesystem window on your computer. Then you right-click the image and select Rehost Image and Copy to Clipboard. The extension will then upload your image to the configured hosting site (e.g., Imgur) and copy a URL to the uploaded image to the clipboard. Then you simply paste the URL into an image element, and you are done.

This process protects the images against changes, if, for example, the 'tard who posted it decides it wasn't such a good idea after all and scrubs it. Also, the source of the image doesn't receive hits containing Referer headers mentioning FR. Instead, those hits (and associated bandwidth) go to the hosting service.

It's also useful for your own images and for screenshots and cropped, resized, or 'shopped images, etc.

Does the app (like Photobucket) automatically generate the complete html code (including the <, img src, “”, =)? Thanks.

Yes. It saves it so all you do is hop back to FR and hit paste. Presto!

First, your whole family has to go to clown college.
And graduate.

On dang, one of them is afraid of clowns! We are doomed in the Future World!

Thank God you don't own FR.

Have a nice day.

I’m always freeping from my ipad, works great. But my phone - I can’t make the text big enough to read on safari. If i do, I would have to scroll sideways every line! And I have good glasses already.

For the first year or so on my ipad, I felt frustrated that I couldn’t express myself in images or put up a funny one when I wanted to. But now with photobucket I find it almost as fast and easy.

I think FR’s layout is a classic, much like Drudge’s “antiquated” look.

Agreed. Simplicity is good.

Although Drudge does take it a little far. I think he positively works to make his site ugly! (Or, should I say, worked? Since his site is little changed since the days of Lewinsky.)

It is easy to freep using a smartphone. Just open up a browser like you would on a tablet or laptop or desktop computer. If you don’t like the browser that came with the phone, install a different one.

Help me with specifics. I’m on an iPhone and Safari or chrome didn’t do it. Tried atomic browser which works brilliantly for FR but crappy for everything else.

I’m bitching about the things that I find don’t work for me on FR. Not the photo issue. That one is fine. The search, the posting instructions, and most of all, being able,to freep on my iphone.

And because the latter makes freeping harder for me, I donate normally and generously each year which is far less than I used to donate.

:)

Some people prefer FR as it is (see post #12). I suspect the "mom and pop" nature of FR's software, combined with Jim Robinson's health issues, fairly precludes a substantial revamping, but that's his decision. Still, perhaps the time is near when additional revenue provided by monthly billing, or masthead or sidebar ads, becomes inevitable.

As I wrote, perhaps you could take a leadership role, in addition to complaining, in encouraging Jim to meet your needs. I've included him as an addressee.

Studies have predicted that by 2017, 87% of all online connections will be with smartphones and/or tablets. This should apply to FR too of course. However, you can be sure that new ways of doing things, such as posting photos will be developed right along with this trend. In other words, the problem (if there is one) will take care of itself.

Do you want a monthly bill?

Currently, I receive and pay a $3 monthly bill, payable quarterly, from Bill James Online. I'm also considering the same for our local online newspaper, although so far I've successfully resisted the temptation. But if FR became fee-based, I expect I would become a subscriber.

Keeps the unimaginative posters from junking up the website.

FR allows just enough to make posts interesting. It's not too minimalist (e.g., Hacker News — example — it's so bad you need an extension just to make it readable). And it's not full of animated smilies (which are supported by the gimped UI of common forum software).

Perhaps FR could provide a link on each page to its HTML Sandbox to make it easier, although the ubiquitous presence of photos on each thread suggests that most posters figure it out easily enough.
