Thousands of litres of beer were spilled on a motorway near Duisburg in western Germany on Monday night, when a truck carrying several hundred crates of Bitburger toppled over, shutting the Autobahn.

The truck was on the A40 motorway heading towards Dortmund and was approaching the A3 motorway towards Arnheim at the Kaiserberg interchange.
The 66-year-old driver then lost control of the vehicle and slid off the road. Hundreds of bottles were spilled across the road and the grass verge.
Police cleared the motorway in the early hours of Tuesday but waited until after the morning rush hour before recovering the truck.
Access to the A3 motorway was blocked between 11am and 2pm, a police spokesman told The Local.
The driver was uninjured.
Speaking of beer....
Tragic. Now if it was Bud Light it would be a favor to humanity.

Oh the humanity!
True story. I'm at my daughter's with her in-laws, watching football with my grandson and others. An advert for Bud Light comes on and my seven year old grandson asks, to no one in particular, "What's Bud Light?" My wife chimes in, "We don't like Bud Light, do we grandpa Lonesome?" His other grandmothers joins her, looking at me, "We don't like Bud Light, right?" Glad to be of assistance, and being nothing if not amenable, I confirm their judgment thus, "Give me a stout or an ale, maybe a lager or a pilsner, but the dishwater they call Bud Light, no way." (I did say dishwater, really.) My wife gave her co-grandmother the "Don't encourage him" look. My wife was more bemused than angry, for reasons unbeknownst to me.

Are they going to charge the truck driver for alcohol abuse?
It was Bitburger - certainly not in the Bub Lite range, but still no great loss.
