New video shows police offered no medical help to unresponsive Staten Island dad Eric Garner

The seven-minute clip posted Saturday on YouTube shows an apparently lifeless Eric Garner, whose head droops to the side as at least eight cops stand nearby.

“C’mon, guy,” one cop says to Garner, the only thing on the video that suggests any of the officers was trying to help the Staten Island man. “Breathe in, breathe out.”

But Garner, on his side with his eyes closed, doesn’t move at all — even when the officer slaps him on the shoulder. The side of his head remains flat against the concrete, and his eyes never open.

At one point, another officer is seen taking a cell phone and a pack of cigarettes from 43-year-old Garner’s pants

He should have been suspended without pay and incarcerated pending charges of murder.

From Newsday =>

An ambulance was called and Garner went into cardiac arrest while he was being taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, Bratton said.

So Bratton says he went into cardiac arrest during ambulance transport. That doesn't sound credible given the video. ______________________________________________________________

Here’s the most complete video I’ve seen. It is truly stunning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vT66U_Ftdng

Could you imagine the stories that would be spun if there was no video?

I’ve always thought that law enforcement for most cops should be like the military; do a four or five year stint (when you’re young & fit), then move on to a real job. Even use something like a GI Bill as an enticement (because otherwise few would spend five years in a dead-end job).

Here in NJ we’ve lost many young cops due to tax caps, and we are left with more-expensive, middle-aged cops that could never catch a perp. The union rules have made the cops ineffective.

I hadn’t seen this 2nd video. Frickin’ really sad! Not one of them could try to help that man? I think that cop lied at the end and said he was breathing. I have a feeling everyone of them standing around knew he was a goner.

I would agree with that and I think all those standing around knew that.

That is truly incredible; those cops should be jailed for life for what they did to that man. It wasn’t attempted murder, but that man would have lost years of his life behind bars and carried a serious criminal record for the rest of his life.

There is no other way to stop cops from doing that, and it lends credence to blacks who insist that they were set up.

He was selling untaxed cigarettes. He deserved to die. It wasn’t like he was playing the harmless Knockout Game.

Mark Steyn had a good piece in May that I just found and posted the other day...the title is not what one traditionally thinks about with gun control.

Gun Control:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3179560/posts

From the article by Steyn:

“As I always say in these circumstances, if you need to shoot a schizophrenic, a teenage partygoer, a lame septuagenarian, a confused hobo, etc, etc, etc, you’re doing it wrong. “The book” is the problem. “The book” is what needs to change. Anyone who goes into law enforcement assumes the risk that a traffic stop might turn out to be something more. Mr Tolan, Miss Ramsey and the rest of us should not have to assume any such risk. In routine encounters with law enforcement, a citizen should not have to weigh the likelihood that the officer will decide to shoot him dead. That’s about as basic a standard for civilized society as one can muster.”

It is a union thing....... union EMT’s render first aid, not union cops. A cop would be fined for taking the job of an EMT

That officer should face charges. There are 4 officers there and he’s already on the ground.

No doubt the cop will say: “but I had to keep him in the choke hold because he was still struggling.”

You dumb ass cop — he was struggling because he couldn’t breathe. You were depriving him of air and killing him. Who wouldn’t struggle for their life in that instance.

Sorry haters, this guy did not die from the choke. In fact, after watching the video, he wasn’t even ‘choked out.’ Look at his hand when he’s on the ground, he’s got it open and up. This guy died of a heart attack from exertion, obesity, struggling and having those other cops on top of him.
