(Video has been removed from JP and youtube...)

A 400-pound Staten Island dad of six, suffering for asthma, died Thursday after a cop put him in a chokehold and other officers appeared to slam his head against the sidewalk, according to a video of the incident published on The Daily News website.

“I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” Eric Garner, 43, is heard screaming after at least five NYPD officers took him down in front of a Tompkinsville beauty supply store when he resisted an arrest.

Within moments Garner stopped struggling and appeared to be unconscious as police called paramedics to the scene.

The Staten Island resident was sitting in front of Bay Beauty on Bay St. and Victory Blvd. just before 5 p.m. when two plainclothes cops began questioning him about selling untaxed cigarettes, the Daily News reported. he started yelling at the cops that he was innocent.

A guy, who shot the video below, tried to intervene, telling the cops his friend had just broken up a fight between three men and had not been selling cigarettes. But when backup uniformed officers arrived, the cops moved in to cuff Garner, the video shows.

“Don’t touch me, please,” he said. When Garner refused orders to put his hands behind his back, one of the plainclothes cops got behind him and put him in a chokehold, the footage shows.

Three uniformed officers joined in on the arrest, knocking him to the ground. He screamed, “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe! Get off of me, get off of me!” several times before he went silent.

In a statement on Friday, NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito called for a “full, transparent and thorough investigation into the incident which led to the death of Eric Garner. New Yorkers expect and deserve to be safe and those protections must include those who are in the custody of NYPD.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement, “On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Garner, who died yesterday afternoon while being placed in police custody. We have a responsibility to keep every New Yorker safe, and that includes when individuals are in custody of the NYPD. That is a responsibility that Police Commissioner Bratton and I take very seriously. We are harnessing all resources available to the City to ensure a full and thorough investigation of the circumstances of this tragic incident. The NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau is working closely with the Office of the Richmond County District Attorney, which is leading this investigation.”

The mayor will have a press availability at City Hall this afternoon, before he takes off for vacation in Italy.

He was actually a small-time violent criminal.

And while he was capable of committing certain felonies, he was incapable of a lot of things.

Like keeping a decent job.

And providing for his family.

And listening to simple instructions.

I saw it also when it was first posted.

Anyone who saw the video saw that the POLICE are definitely CULPABLE in this situation.

He was a violent criminal...

He had trouble keeping a job

He did not provide for his family good enough

He did not listen to instructions well.

Discredit the man anyway possible, in an effort to make his death more legitimate...

Repeat as necessary..

Of course. Because short, edited videos always tell the whole story.

Only idiots bother with analyzing the video - the same idiots who blindly refuse to accept the agenda of the person doing the editing.

Tell us, o VideoDoctor, why all videos should always be accepted at face value.

The video was edited...Don’t believe it.

He was obese, and likely ready to die anyway..

Discredit the man anyway possible, in an effort to make his death more legitimate.

His death was a purely random event.

He was taken into custody on 31 prior occasions and survived all of them.

Hundreds of thousands of arrests will be made this year: in one case the arrestee happened to have a heart attack during the process - when is the last time that happened?

That's neither "legitimate" or "illegitimate" - it's just statistical randomness.

Take all your references to Mr. Garner and submit 'Cliven Bundy' and would you feel the same way? For example, change your post to read:

Evasive distraction? Let's get to the heart of the matter: why does this Cliven Bundy, alone among other lesser citizens, get to pick and choose whether or not he will be arrested?

Why does the law apply to me, but not to Cliven Bundy?

Were you cheering on the BLM as you are the NYPD?

I hold no brief for the BLM - unlike the NYPD I've never seen them serve a useful purpose - but I think Cliven Bundy is a snake oil salesman who snookered well-intentioned people into helping him evade paying his rent.

Bundy is a clown and should not be held up as a champion.

That being said, not paying you rent and working as a lookout for a street gang are two different activities.

Psittacism is not an argument.

It is an admission that one's argument has collapsed.

Psittacism?

You've got to be kidding. Using a thesaurus to look up academia words and terms...I'm not impressed wideawake.

Lets cut to the chase to what this all boils down to wideawake...I am equally not impressed by your repeated pattern of siding with corrupt government and those running it. I'm obviously not the only one who's noticed.

Ya think most have failed to notice government and their enforcement agents are clearly ramping up their obey or die, us VS them tactics? To the point which they now look like standing armies and war like military units. Ya think millions of Americans are failing to notice all these very disturbing changes and irreparable damage causing widespread distrust?

The same controlling government agencies, people and political party you support have not only stood by allowing the U.S. to be over run by foreigners, legal and illegal, compromising and undermine out entire country, but have actually aided and abetted it for decades now. All while they spy on, monitor, increasingly regulate and control us, while millions entering illegally are rewarded with prizes and gifts.

But wideawake said there are no double standards regarding government. No hidden agendas...Right wideawake?

Now you can claim all of this has nothing to do with this incident, and it's just an isolated random incident where another person simply killed themselves for failing to quickly obey every command.

I see.

It's all a big conspiracy.

Eric Garner knew too much about the Trilateral Commission and the Illuminati, and he had to be silenced.

Got it.

No, government and those in it would never conspire, or endeavor to control and regulate our every move would they wideawake?

You’ve got to be kidding?

What about that double standard? Never happen would it?

People have been resisting arrest since the founding of this republic, and they have been made to comply since the founding of this republic.

We are a nation of laws, not men.

Eric Garner cannot pick and choose whether he wants to comply with an arrest. Nor can I, if I found myself under arrest.

Perhaps you see the rule of law as a conspiracy, going back all the way to the Founding Fathers.

I don't.

“You almost never hear of a 400lb man having a heart attack.”

So he deserved to die because he wasn’t as fit as he should have been?
A nation of free men should be one where a person can non violently argue with law enforcement personal. We are not their subjects.

No, he died because he wasn't as fit as he could have been.

It is not a question of "deserving" - it is a question of biology.

A nation of free men should be one where a person can non violently argue with law enforcement personal.

It wasn't an argument.

He was under arrest, and he would not comply.

We are not their subjects.

Of course not. But we are all subject to the law.

If he wanted to argue the law, the correct place was in a court of law.
