The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

Oh boy, BLT’s I haven’t had one of those in a long time.
Nothing going on here but some peppers . Tomatos were ate by critters long ago. I may take cuttings to start some for fall and see how that works out.
Mostly plants...so I guess they hitched a ride.
My daughter had a plant she'd saved from my Dad's funeral. It got white flies. We tried everything chemically to get rid of them. Like bug bomb set off in a small enclosed space, remving and tossing soil, and washing with rubbing alcohol, dawn, listerine every surface of the plant we could, plastic bag for three days and spraying house and garden aerosol into the bag, then reclosing it tightly. The damn things still lived. She finally tossed the plant. Guess we should've tried sticky traps.

I already tried two different insecticides, but nothing seems to help.

Well, right now, I would try to give everything some shadecloth for at least part of the day..I assume these clouds will be gone by Monday.
Sunny 4 X4 would get tomatoes, okra, peppers, green beans, winter squash. Partial Shade I would wait a few weeks, then plant some cabbage, leaf lettuce, broccoli, eggplant,and some Profusion Zinnias (plants) That way if everything else fails the Profusion Zinnias will lift your spirits. BTW, I know the wisdom is that Eggplant likes heat, but mine always goes to town in the cooler fall weather.
Your other option is to check out Straight from the Crate Farmer's Market on Pat Booker. I see it was voted best in SA this past week on WOAI. :o)
Where did you get Black Gold Potting Mix? Lowes, Home Deptot? I’m finding mushrooms growing in my Miracle Grow.
Black Gold is by far the best potting soil we have ever used and it is plentiful here in Benderville how ever It is near $10 for a 1 1/2 cubic foot bag but it gets double duty, once in the pots and then it goes in the garden or compost piles...
Squash... lots and lots of squash... lots and lots of squash.
BLT’s. Haven’t had one in eons. I remember how good they are with fresh garden tomatoes! Yum, yum.
First go out and find the hottest hot sauce then strain some of it through a paint strainer or tea towels to get the tomato sauce out. All you want is the hot stuff. pour into a hand sprayer small one add water actually (quite a bit) and spray on the tomatoes (ONLY). Squirrels will stay away from them. It works for me.
My spring crop of beans, tomato's, and squash have petered out and I'll be re-planting them this week for the fall crop.
Leafy veggies like collards, kale, brussel sprouts, and rooting veggies like carrot and radish can go in the ground in October/early November time frame for a late winter/spring harvest. They prefer cooler weather.
Sock- your daughters Malabar spinach is failing??????? Mine is growing everywhere and I didn't plant any this year. It's all left over from last years crop. It's practically invasive. I've been selling a lot of it at the farmers market.
I am going to have to try some of those San Marzano next year. Corn - I love it all, but especially sweet white corn.

Yeah, I’m also a big fan of sweet white corn. And I still have 5lbs. of my Silver Queen crop from last year in my freezer.
This is my first year to try the Marzanoes. I got them from a local grower who said chefs in the area took just about his entire crop of starters and have already made commitments for alot of plants next year, too. My Marzanoes are about 4’ high and have fruit but nothing has ripened yet. Anyway, in the past, I haven’t had good luck growing plum tomatoes but it does tend to be my favorite tomato to buy in the market. And, wow, getting things organized the other day in my garden, I have empty containers great for tomato plants so maybe I’ll visit the grower Saturday to see if he has any more Marzanoes.

A teaspoon of baking soda in a gallon of water, then sprayed on the soil will kill those little mushrooms/spores if you don’t like them.
You are closer to the Source. Down here in TX, I pay $13.99 for the 1.5 Cubic foot bag. It sure beats miracle grow, in which I have even found a piece of bicycle chain, and pieces of plastic.
In my mind's eye there's Qiviut chasing down squirrels and crows with a baseball bat sized cucuzza.
I made cucuzzoodles with my cranky zoodle thingie today. Because the cucuzza is softer in the middle, and has lots of seeds the entire length.. they didn't work as good as a trombetta in which the long neck has no seeds.
I did some of the noodle shaped cucuzza, but most I diced so I can do that Italian stew.
I gave some of the noodle thingies to my gunsmith, and he was going to try them on a pizza..I would not have thought of doing that with them.
Assessed the storm damage from yesterday.
Corn is very bedraggled looking, but upright. Most of the tomatoes, sweet potatoes, beans, and cowpeas have pretty much had their leaves stripped. The potatoes and Napa cabbages have some leaf/stem damage but not bad. Onion family stuff is all pretty much okay, except for the shallots, which took a bit of a beating, as did the carrot tops. The grains were not hurt at all.
The good news (WHEW! It was a close call!) is that none of the weeds seem to have suffered. :-(
The other (maybe) good news is that the last time this happened, the tomatoes recovered with a vengeance, and gave us our best crop to date.

That happened to me last year. I figured I was over watering. But that was just a guess, and nothing to back it up. So what do I know? LOL! I surely didn’t like seeing those!
