A question for women...

Posted on 07/18/2014 10:49:41 AM PDT by MNDude

Recently I was involved with a business meeting with another officer of our company with a woman seeking a contracting job with our company.

We went out to lunch for a long meeting to discuss what we were looking for and what she had to offer. After our meeting, she said something like "I'm sure you guys would like to discuss this with one another if I'm a match or not. I would like to excuse myself to the restroom." She then took her purse, put it in the middle of the table and left for the restroom.

We then started discussing our initial thoughts and concerns about our meeting with her. A while later she came back to rejoin us, and later on in the week, she sent us an email discussing possible objections we might have to hiring her.

The guy that I met with is convinced that she left a recorder inside her purse and and then put the purse in front of us to capture our conversation. He says "a woman would never leave her purse on the table with some guys she just met! She was recording us!"

I don't know what is normal for carrying and leaving a purse, so my question is for the women here. How odd is it that she left purse on the table with us while she went to the restroom? Odd enough to have suspicions about being recorded?

I thought you’d go that route.

No way would she leave her purse, for safety reasons, plus she would have needed her hairbrush, lipstick, etc. to freshen up in the ladies’ room. I say...she recorded you!

No way in hell does my purse stay behind, even if it only had a kleenex in it. No way in hell.

(What if you guys went through it?)

No problem...my wife has, (in the past)asked me to look for something in her purse.

My answer...NO!

If I knew I was being recorded in a situation like that, I would have some fun with it.

I was reading a book about the mafia a few years back and when a particular wiseguy realized that the feds had bugged his home, he would have conversations praising the FBI and their efforts to bust up organized crime. This drove the FBI nuts and they quickly took out the bugs, realizing that they were useless.

It would have been funny if the men sitting around the purse proceeded to make blubbering, nonsense noise the entire time she was gone. Then started talking normally again as soon as she came within earshot.

Then of course, to proceed not to hire her.

Smart man!!!

Yes I am. Still married to the same woman, God bless her, for 24 years, and I'm still alive. That's smart.

I reckon you were recorded. We keep our purses in arms reach or locked up.

This is strange behavior, especially considering the followup email.

I would avoid having her anywhere near my organization--you don't need manipulative types in the workplace. Eventually, I am certain she would be trouble.

She was very angry and bitter at her former company. (I suspect they got a $100 million IPO, and then cut her out of the picture). She was also very paranoid and controlling. She would start telling employees to stop projects they were working on until they heard from her.

Once I asked her about that and she went crazy (on web cam). She started crying and screaming about how she got screwed at her last company, and she would never let that happen again.

This sounds like my last boss. He was paranoid and controlling. I could write a novel about all the things he would do to manipulate and control his employees.

His paranoia is what really got me. He freaked out because I called an outside contractor that he had hired to repair something (and whom I knew personally)to get some background info before making a second repair on the same equipment. I had the office manager conference call the guy instead of calling him direct just so it wouldn't look like I was going behind his back, since his paranoia was getting worrisome. He freaked so bad that he started illegally recording all phone calls going through the office and tried to hide it from all of the employees.

That bastard paid me minimum wage, about a quarter of my normal wage, on my last check because I didn't give him two weeks notice. (I gave him only two days because I saw what he did to the last guy who gave two weeks notice.)

BTW, only one of the five employees that was at this company last year still works there, and he's desperately looking for another job.

She set you up to record you, no doubt. It’s not normal for a woman to set her purse on the table to go to the restroom.

It is normal for women to leave their purses in shopping carts while they step away to get something. I’m amazed!

No, that’s ignorance or carelessness.
