A 400-pound asthmatic Staten Island dad died Thursday after a cop put him in a chokehold and other officers appeared to slam his head against the sidewalk, video of the incident shows.
“I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” Eric Garner, 43, repeatedly screamed after at least five NYPD officers took him down in front of a Tompkinsville beauty supply store when he balked at being handcuffed.
Within moments Garner, a married father of six children with two grandchildren, stopped struggling and appeared to be unconscious as police called paramedics to the scene. An angry crowd gathered, some recording with smartphones.

It depends. There is a right to resist unlawful arrest.

Not saying it is smart to resist, but doing so isn't per se criminal, as you intimate.

Having dealt personally with twenty years of harassment by the police, I can tell you something: Objecting to police harassment is NOT grounds for immediate execution.
I agree, you will not win that one. But I get why guys do. I don’t even blame them. But cops would do themselves a favor and all of the public if they would dial it down a few notches and save the macho stuff for the real bad guys. You know the ones who actually are shooting at them. I don’t see their John Wayne bull when they are actually at a disadvantage.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on that. My only point (one which the knuckledraggers on this thread can’t grasp) is that fighting with cops out on the street is lunacy. Not only is it against the law, the resister will LOSE EVERY SINGLE TIME. Sometimes tragically, as in this case.

Sorry, but an unlawful arrest is an unlawful arrest, harassment is harassment, and one is under no compunction to allow or submit under those circumstances.
