Early Risers More Likely To Cheat And Behave Dishonestly At Night, US Study Finds

By Raziye Akkoc Early risers are more likely to behave dishonestly and cheat during night time hours, a study has found.

Those who rise early see their energy levels decrease during the day which directly affects their behaviour. Researchers believe the way a person's internal body clock works could have an impact on the workplace. Psychologists tested the honesty of almost 200 individuals by asking them to undertake problem-solving tests and games. Those who took part were tested on how honest they were about their perfomance, rather than their actual achievements.

Morning people inflated their score in the evening in the belief that their work was anonymous and could overstate their scores to earn larger amounts.

Although the exact reason for the change in honesty levels was not given, the researchers wrote in a Harvard Business Review blog post in June that "resisting the temptation to act unethically requires energy and effort". The study, ‘The Morality of Larks and Owls’, follows on from studies last year which suggested a “morning morality effect”: people are more ethical in the morning than later in the day.

Academics from John Hopkins, Georgetown and Washington universities asked participants in one test to report die roll outcomes with each number yielding one ticket for a large raffle.

People up and functioning before the crack of dawn are merely taking advantage of all the hard work provided the night before by midnight oil burners...and therefore are nothing but opportunistic scum. Typical liberals profiting from the hard work of better men than they ;)

Early bird gets the worm.
You are what you eat.
Ergo, the early bird is a lowly worm!
