California Approves Fines for Wasting Water During Drought

Cities throughout California will have to impose mandatory restrictions on outdoor watering under an emergency state rule approved Tuesday.

Saying that it was time to increase conservation in the midst of one of the worst droughts in decades, the State Water Resources Control Board adopted drought regulations that give local agencies the authority to fine those who waste water up to $500 a day.

Many Southern California cities, including Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Long Beach, already have mandatory restrictions in place.

But most communities across the state are still relying on voluntary conservation, and Californians in general have fallen far short of meeting Gov. Jerry Brown’s January call for a 20% cut in water use.

But you know what I’m talking about.

I no a guy from Eureka who was going to make a movie about it. He hired me to help him with the script. As usual, funding fell through.

Isn’t everything a waste of water in CA if one does something of which a liberal disapproves.

It certainly looks like a lot of fun. I researched when working on the script. I got a little money to do a re-write. Now the finished product is in the attic collecting dust. When I die it’ll end up in the trash. ha!

The ranchers in Ferndale where that race ends just received cease and desist orders from the state cutting them off of water out of the Eel River.

“Junior water rights holders relying on the north fork and main stem of the Eel River and the Van Duzen tributary have lost their ability to divert water after a recent California State Water Resources Control Board decision, causing one local city to initiate an emergency water shortage response plan.

The board curtailed the rights of 129 junior water rights holders after finding river levels were “insufficient to meet the needs of senior water rights holders.”

When it starts raining again, it’s a safe bet that no matter how hard it rains, the bureaucrats will say that the rain is not relieving the drought and will try to maintain the restrictions.

I'm inclined to agree with you...but bring on the rain just the same.

As I understand it you’re up in a conservative area but can’t compete with the big liberal cities. I’ve read that even if the proposal to split into 6 states were to win approval the congress would never approve it. What the hell has happened in this country?

Yes...that is the other problem, the lack of dams and canals to store and deliver water. What a crock!
