AURORA, Ill. – A Hobby Lobby store in Illinois is facing a discrimination complaint after a ‘transgender’ employee was told that he may not use the women’s restroom until he has reconstructive surgery to switch from male to female reproductive organs.
The employee, who goes by the name Meggan Sommerville, also professes to be a Christian. He has worked for Hobby Lobby since 1998, at which time he identified as male.However, in 2009, Sommerville began transitioning to look like a woman and changed his name. According to Sommerville, Hobby Lobby accommodated him by changing his gender in the company records and providing a name tag with his new name. He also states that company insurance covered part of his treatment, such as hormone therapy.
But Hobby Lobby drew the line when Sommerville began using the women’s restroom. Representatives at the Aurora location reportedly told Sommerville that he must use the men’s restroom until he has reconstructive surgery to obtain female genitalia.
“I was devastated,” Sommerville told the Huffington Post. “I just want to be treated like all the other women. To do anything else diminishes who I am in the eyes of customers and employees.”
Therefore, in 2011, he filed a complaint with the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), alleging discrimination in employment and public accommodation. The case was thrown out in 2012 due to a lack of evidence, but was later overturned and the matter is currently pending before the IDHR.
Hobby Lobby is not commenting on the matter since it is pending, but others have expressed concern that homosexual and transgender groups may now seek to revoke the religious rights of companies like Hobby Lobby following its recent win in the Supreme Court.

There is no such surgery available, and no real prospect of it being made available in the future. A man can be mutilated to where his genitalia take on something resembling the appearance of female genitalia, but installing female organs capable of reproduction is quite beyond our abilities.
I also like the phrase "reconstructive surgery," as if something that was damaged is being put back together, rather than undamaged organs being intentionally mutilated.
“I was devastated”. Don’t tell me he’s not emotionally disturbed. You don’t get “devastated” over your choice of bathrooms.
First time the predator walks into a womens bathroom make sure the police get called and the women involved take him to civil court as well.
There is actually no such thing as a sex change operation. As soon as he stopped taking the hormone pills he’d just revert back to a guy with his functional parts cut off. The chromosomes which determine our gender cannot be altered.
There's Hobby Lobby's mistake right there. They should have assigned it work designed to look like a promotion where it simply could not perform, documented its incompetence and 'reluctantly' fired it.

This is unbelievable. The idiot should just leave and look for employment elsewhere! Sex change surgery no such procedure exists. Come now whomever did the reporting is an absolute dolt. Change the name give hormones and than they will change the genitalia to something different - okay where will the ovaries come from, does not happen. I’m willing to say that if he eliminates the male plumbing, he can use the women’s bathroom.
If the male plumbing is still there, he has to use the men’s bathroom - clothing and coiffure withstanding.
Quite so.
There are (a very, very few) people with chromosomal anomalies where their status as male or female is somewhat ambiguous.
But that does not make sex/gender a matter of choice even for them. They’re unfortunates with birth defects, not a harbinger of the bright ambisexual future.
The leftist followers of Satan will continue to attack Christian-owned Hobby Lobby. This will never subside until they are out of business forever.
