James Bond: Super Spy. Franchise Anchor. Icon of Masculinity
breitbart ^

On the occasion of the release of my E-Book on the James Bond film series--Bond Forever: A Film Buff’s Cinematic Analysis of the James Bond Series--I thought Breitbart readers would enjoy some thoughts on our expectations of masculinity in mass media, as portrayed by James Bond, who has managed to survive a miserable trend of male feminization.

“A dry martini,” [Bond] said. “One. In a deep champagne goblet.”

“Oui, monsieur.”

“Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?”

“Certainly, monsieur.” The barman seemed pleased with the idea.

“Gosh, that’s certainly a drink,” said Leiter.

Bond laughed. “When I’m...er...concentrating,” he explained, “I never have more than one drink before dinner. But I do like that one to be large and very strong and very cold and very well-made. I hate small portions of anything, particularly when they taste bad. This drink’s my own invention. I’m going to patent it when I can think of a good name.”

With all deference, a drink made with vodka, by definition, IS NOT a martini. Martinis are made with gin.

Sean Connery has had his share of fights before he became James Bond, including Lana Turner’s murdered thug boyfriend.

John Cleese: James Bond lost humour to please Asian markets

The Monty Python actor, who played Q in the Pierce Brosnan era of James Bond films, has said the series tried to emulate ‘gritty and humourless’ Bourne films

I ordered a margarita when I sat at a bar earlier this week. Not very Bond-ish, but I did get it made with Herradura and Cointreau.

I keep all of the ingredients for a Vesper in my fridge at all times, and imbibe often. Brutally strong drink.
Yet when I mentioned the drink at work to the guys, they give me crap saying, “Lemon peel?! Sounds like a girly drink to me.”

I can’t wait to serve them one.

I can’t make it past three of them.

Like at the beginning of Goldfinger when Bond sends his poolside masseuse on her way when Felix Leitner, the CIA guy, shows up.

"Say good-bye to Felix."

'"Huh?"

"Man talk". [followed by a nice slap on the butt]

I celebrate the military prowess of Field Marshall Bernard Law Montgomery with the drink named for him.

http://www.codex99.com/list/42.html

The Montgomery

Hemingway ranked dry martini drinking somewhere between bullfighting and big-game hunting in his list of manly pursuits. Papa called this martini, which he drank at Harry’s Bar in Venice, the Montgomery, after Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery. The joke goes that Montgomery would not attack unless he had a 15:1 advantage in forces, which is what Papa thought the gin-to-vermouth ratio was in this drink. It reality it is closer to 10:1.

2 oz. Gordon’s gin
1 tsp. + a few drops Noilly Prat vermouth
Olive

Pour ingredients into an ice-filled shaker. Shake, then strain into a martini glass. Garnish with an olive.

Icon of consumerism is more like it.

Bond's hedonism was part of the road to where we are now.

I’d like to consume almost every Bond girl there ever was, next the cocktails and then a drive, very long and very quick in the DB5

The only reason Bond has survived male feminization is because he’s British, conceived by a Brit, movies made by EON Productions (Brit), surrounded by Brit staff & & writers & crew and not influenced that much by Hollywood.

Once Hollyweird gets their hand on the franchise, he’ll change.
