As far as bad celebrity covers of rock songs go, this one really isn't too bad. Lee has a pretty decent set of pipes on him.

No?

Well, at least it's better than Telly Salvas' version of You've lost that loving feeling. You gotta give me that!

Nothing like hearing old Telly talk his way through a song back in the day.

I’m pretty sure that the original is in German. (Bertolt Brecht).

I saw him interviewed on Carson many years ago and Carson said that with such a big, powerful voice, surely he could sing great, right? Lee said no, he could not carry a tune at all. I remember thinking, that’s BS.

By gum, you are correct. I looked up Three Penny Opera and that indeed is where the song originally came from. I never knew that - thanks for the heads up! :-)

Correct - the Weill/Brecht 3 Penny Opera. I have a poor singing voice which is fairly authentic for the song and did sing it once at a bar after consuming a fair number of adult beverages. Listen to the recording with the song done by Willy Trenk-Trebitsch for an idea.

The late, great Jerry Ohrbach starred in a revival of The Threepenny Opera; here is a link to him singing it in English...

And who could forget Bobby Darin’s version?
