Driven by past failures, Spurs blow by Thunder again in Game 2
Sports Illustrated ^ | 5/22/14 | Ben Golliver

SAN ANTONIO -- With another lopsided victory in the books, the Spurs are beginning to look like they will power their way to the fifth title of the Tim Duncan era.

Wednesday's result was the most vicious yet. The 35-point victory margin was the largest of San Antonio's postseason; the Spurs have now won their last six home playoff games by a staggering average of 23 points. The defeat was also the worst playoff loss for the Thunder since they relocated to Oklahoma City, and it seems cruel to ask any team to "adjust" its way out of that type of hole in a matter of days.

"We got our butts kicked," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said, looking dejected and overwhelmed for the second time in three nights.

A Spurs collapse in this series is just about unthinkable. The offense is whirring too smoothly and the defensive effort is too high. The matchups advantages -- in the post, from beyond the arc and on the bench -- are too great.

A seriously shameful public butt-kickin'.

The Thunder has no business being there.

An embarrassment to Oklahoma, and an insult to the mighty Trailblazers.

If Ibaka had been out sooner, Memphis or Portland would be trying to stop San Antonio now. The Grizzlies could handle OK with their defense, but Ibaka killed their already limited scoring...

The San AnPhonio Sterns (Named after their daddy, David Stern, who GAVE them the 2007 championship) benefit from a league that has bee pussified on defense.

They are, the whiniest, dirtiest, floppiest team in the NBA. They are a mirror image of their “coach” PopaZit.

They have never won two championships in a row. Their wins in 1999, the strike year & 2007, their daddy Stern’s year, are tainted.

It is disgraceful that they represent a once great game. Here’s to hoping that the East winner goes rough on them and knocks their teeth out.

They’d better finish the job this year. I was physically ill after they blew Game Six last year against the Trayvons.

Without Ibaka OKC doesn’t stand a chance..Westbook/Durant can’t do it all by themselves..both games they have lost by double digits, can that change at home, possibly but I doubt it the Spurs just look too tough to beat..I wouldn’t mind the Spurs winning as long as I don’t have to see that fraud LeBron win

Well, OKC would be doing better with a healthy Ibaka, but even at equal strength, SA is a better team. At the moment. The core of OKC is very young, and SA is a fairly old team. In a few years after Duncan and Ginobili retire, and Parker is a few years older, OKC will do their share of steamrollering.

Hard to believe the Mavs pushed them to 7 games.

Well, Allen’s three pointer might be the greatest clutch shot in NBA history. He doesn’t make it (or Bosh doesn’t get the off. rebound to get the ball to him), and SA gets their fifth title.

Beginning to look like the Pacers and Heat are battling it out for second place.

Dallas is a similar team, but not quite as good. SA’s depth kills most teams. Plus, SA is always better rested for the playoffs...Popovich plans for the playoffs.

"The Thunder has no business being there. "

Yeah, I just hate it when a completely untalented and totally undeserving team WINS all the games necessary to get to this point. How dare they even show up? Obviously the championship should just be determined by fan votes.

“Obviously the championship should just be determined by fan votes.”

That would be fine with me! Then we would not be subjected to a two month long second season.

Ive always hated Miami..always disliked LeBron..then his team did the Trayvon Martin salute, that made me hate them even more..then I heard LeBron say in an interview that he does not want any member of Sterling’s “Jewish Family” having ownership of the Clippers..anti Semitic a-hole its none of his damn business
