The City Council’s proposed budget to be unveiled Wednesday will push for two big priorities: free lunch for all public school kids and 1,000 new cops.

The Council is asking for $24 million to provide lunches regardless of how much money kids’ families make.

They’re also seeking $94 million to boost the police force to more than 36,400 cops, among other changes proposed to Mayor de Blasio’s budget. …

America! The Land of the Free Lunch!

It seems to be that way. Most schools are heading towards “free” lunches....I love how they put that....”free”. It is wonderful to live in a country that everything is becoming free. It is a wonder that we even have to pay property taxes anymore....lol.

Since I didn't see any mention of federal funding concerning these lunches, I don't have a problem with "free" lunches financed by local / state taxpayers, free lunches ultimately determined by a state's voters.

Otherwise, the states have never delegated to the feds, via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for intrastate school lunch programs.

Well, what would we expect with yet another socialist at the helm?

Actually, NYC might get behind the times. My local school district has free breakfasts and lunches. Someday soon they will add free dinners too.

Yeah but since NYC is now a Marxist state under Mayor Wilhelm, no doubt he is going to utilize the lunch menu of fellow Marxist Mooshelle...

School children enjoying Michelle Obamas lunch...

I heard a fragment of a conversation between a mother and son in a store over the weekend. The mother was telling the boy “It may be free to you but not to someone else.”

I wish I had heard the entire context, but it sounded like she was trying to impress upon him that someone ultimately has to pay for that “free” fill-in-the-blank that is being offered to someone.

That’s not a “republican form of government”. The Constitution, by inference, requires the feds to prevent states from adopting a socialist form of government.

Where’s the photo of the tiny something-burger on a dry bun with a half a kiwi that was being served to kids somewhere in the Midwest? After all, it meet the Moochelle standards of being non-nutritious, not filling, flavorless, inadequate even in quantity...and something Moochelle and her daughters would never dream of eating.

I’ve often questioned public schools which are a form of socialism.

Public schools are explicitly mentioned in the second chapter of the Communist Manifesto.

Meanwhile, they don’t seem to be mentioned in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.
