Principal: L.I. High School Students Suspended Indefinitely For Displaying Confederate Flag

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Two Long Island high school students have been suspended for allegedly bringing a Confederate flag to school. Brother Gary Cregan, principal of St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, said the two seniors walked in with a Confederate flag draped around their shoulders during an after-hours sporting event at the school. As CBS 2′s Kathryn Brown reported, there is outrage and disgust on Long Island.

I call BS! Kids in high school these days are too stupid to even know what the flag is.

And was it the Confederate Flag or the Battle Flag? The idiots on the left never state this.

Regardless, it’s just more PC BS.

If they walked with the original Confederate Stars and Bars flag, nobody would have even noticed.

The often-changed Georgia state flag is now the Stars and Bars with an altered field, but the entitlement community still hasn’t caught on yet.

You don’t have first amendment rights while in high school.

You are preaching to the choir on that one. However, unless there is a specific rule they broke, the suspension is not valid.

That’s a great idea: A rainbow Confederate flag to honor the valiant gays who served in the Confederate army.

Standing against that would be homophobic.

You can bet the principal wouldn’t complain if a black panther or islamist flag appeared on campus.

Well, that's the rhetoric, the kind of speculation people love to throw out there because there's no way to prove it one way or the other.

The best-known of all Confederate flags—the battle flag—is often erroneously confused with the national flag of the Confederacy. The battle flag features the cross of St. Andrew (the apostle was martyred by being crucified on an X-shaped cross), and is commonly called the "Southern Cross." A large degree of the Southern population was of Scottish and Scotch-Irish ancestry, and thus familiar with St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland.

Andreas; from the early 1st century – mid to late 1st century AD; known by some as Saint Andrew), called in the Orthodox tradition Prōtoklētos (Πρωτόκλητος), or the First-called, was a Christian Apostle and the brother of Saint Peter.[2]

The name "Andrew" (Greek: manly, brave, from ἀνδρεία, Andreia, "manhood, valour"), like other Greek names, appears to have been common among the Jews, Christians, and other Hellenized people of the region.

His patronage includes Scotland, Ukraine, Russia, Sicily, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Patras, Diocese of Parañaque, City of Manila,[1] Amalfi, Luqa (Malta) and Prussia; Diocese of Victoria fishermen, fishmongers and rope-makers.

The flag was a symbol of honor and dignity, not slavery. It was never a symbol of slavery in the old South. It only became such through the slanders of northern carpet baggers and associated plunderers who sought to discredit all that was decent about the south.

Does this have any parallels to today's political and cultural environment?

Message to those student: If you had done this in central VA nobody would have noticed. I have battle flag flying most of the time at my house and nobody even comments. It is just normal. Bottom line to these gents: Move South about 300 miles.

The man who is now in charge of the Jefferson Davis Memorial in Kentucky (at Jefferson Davis’ birthplace) is a black man who is proud of his ancestor who served as an officer in the Confederate Army. He is a retired U.S. Marine, a UC Berkeley alumnus, and a big admirer of Jefferson Davis.
