The headline talks about Cognitive Decline but the story is about cognitive motor performance which is really about the way the brain and body function together. Being young is not better or smarter - I am far more able to understand new things and think them through than I ever was at 25 - Admittedly I was a pretty stupid 25 year old, run of the mill, believe what everyone else does, lefty!

24? Huh. My decline started at 18 and was pretty much done at 22 when I finished college.

I wish someone would do a “study” to determine the cause of mental illness in liberals.

I'd say most innovative from 25 to 35.

Most cowboy - "hold my beer" alert from 15 to 25.

Wisdom starts at 35 and continues until mental arterial sclerosis at some age from 35 to 80, depending on the individual.

“they had a news article that claimed drinking semen cures depression and once claimed that soya sauce could cure cancer”

I’m quite certain the prior article was written by a guy who needed to justify something to someone.

Isaac Newton published his magnus opus — Principia Mathematica when he was in his mid 40’s.

Many of Bach’s greatest musical works were composed in his 40’s and 50’s. Bach assembled his last large work, the Mass in B minor, near the end of his life, when he was in his 60’s.

William Harvey published his famous work done a decade prior” “On the Motion of the Heart and Blood” at nearly age 50.

They claim that as soon as players hit the ripe old age of 25, they have already reached their peak in terms of cognitive motor performance.

That's because years of playing Starcraft turns their brains into jello at an early age.

I don’t have the same set of skills that I had when I was younger, but I am comfortable with different skills that developed since then, that the 24-year old version of me could not have even imagined.

I find this analogous to the skillset of a baseball pitcher - with the exception of Nolan Ryan, you lose the flame-thowing capabilities of youth, starting in your late 20’s (or earlier). If you want to stay in the game, you have to develop other skills like situational awareness and knowing your opponents and their weaknesses.

“Isaac Newton published his magnus opus — Principia Mathematica when he was in his mid 40’s.”

There are always outliers. And, I have read that he had WRITTEN it considerably earlier. There was generally a lot of time between writing something and having it widely distributed then, as I recall :).

However, many contemporaries were on his trail (Liebnitz, for example). IMO, “Opticks” took even more imagination and is _still_ the bedrock template for scientific discovery. What he did, and documented, was incredible leap of process and knowledge.

“I wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then.”

I though that this was a fairly amusing comment, at first. Then, I thought about it. Not funny. Next life, I want to be very handsome and completely stupid.
