Noah, the fanatical environmentalist anti-religious big budget movie, has crashed to 6th place, where it’s closely tied with the low budget God’s Not Dead, a Christian film.
Noah had a budget of $125 million and is struggling to make that back. God’s Not Dead has a budget of $2 million and has made it back many times over.
Noah is playing in over 3,282 theaters, while G0d’s Not Dead is playing in 1,860 theaters. While the final box office figures for the weekend aren’t in yet, current estimates place Noah in 6th place with $7 million for the weekend and God’s Not Dead in 7th place with $5.47 million for the weekend.
Per theater estimates are too preliminary to list, but it’s clear that God’s Not Dead is doing much better per theater than Noah.

In its second weekend, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is in a fight for the top spot with new release “Rio 2.” Both sequels are circling $40 million-plus weekends. No surprise there. But proving you can only fool people for so long, in its third weekend, director Darren Aronofsky’s creepy attempt to fool the public into believing his anti-God “Noah” was a biblical tale ran aground with a paltry $7.1 million weekend.
As of Monday, Russell Crowe’s Gnostic bait-and-switcheroo will sit somewhere around $84 million. That will officially put it behind the pace of Russell Crowe’s previous big-budget flop “Robin Hood,” which managed to only reach $105 million at the North American box office.
“Noah” is now in real danger of losing money. Between its $125 million production budget and promotional budget likely in the $50 to $75 million range, the anti-God epic needs to gross something close to $400 million worldwide just to break even. Depending on how many countries remain for the film to open in, as of now $400 million is a long ways off.
Going forward, “Noah” is also facing serious headwinds. The Vatican newspaper just blasted the film, a lousy CinemaScore rating of “C” usually means terrible word-of-mouth, and after fooling moviegoers and many in the Christian media through its first weekend, the word is now out that “Noah” is an attack on God, not biblical.
Meanwhile, a truly Christian film, “God’s Not Dead,” continues to soar at the box office. In its fourth weekend, the story of a student’s confrontation with an atheist teacher (played by Kevin Sorbo) grossed $5.3 million, for a total of $40.7 million. With a production and promotional budget that totaled $4 million, “God’s Not Dead” has to be closing in on a record as far as return on investment.

With the largest weekends done, and a steady rate of decline established, you can make fairly accurate estimations of the total box office for each movie’s run.
Noah will make $104 million, but cost $125 million. LOSS: $21 million or about 18%.
God’s Not Dead will make $65 million, but cost $2 million. PROFIT: $43 million, or 2100%.
God’s Not Dead’s box office haul is nowhere near Noah’s box office haul.
Noah’s haul per theater isn’t even in the same galaxy as God’s Not Dead’s haul per theater.
Only one of the two movies made a heavy return on the investment.
When Noah came out, the promotional ads kept saying something about the producers believed the story to be true to the bible even though there were differences...

I keep seeing on these box office threads people conflating ticket sales with profits.
As a rule of thumb, Movie studio’s receive slightly less than half of all domestic ticket sales. Less than that for over seas sales.
Noah is a big flop.
The death of “main stream” religion is well on track. More and more we see libs quoting verse to “prove” Jesus was a socialist and Sodom was destroyed because the Sodomites were disrespectful to the angels, and of course now, people were destroyed due to environmental concerns from God. I recently did a message on homosexuality destroying the land that God gives His people and Googled “gay deacons”. I was astounded at the cottage industries set up to write pure crap for internet users to read. If you don’t study your Bible it is possible to convince anybody of anything. Many “experts” couldn’t possibly have ever read the Bible and understood anything. I’ll wager there are many people now that put “Noah” right up there with “The Ten Commandments” and Charlon Heston. Of course we know now that the debate is settled on climate change, I just wasn’t aware that it was settled in Genesis. I’m still searching Scripture for the Rock people, but I’m sure it’s just a translation problem.
God’s Not Dead is one of the best movies I have ever seen. MUST SEE!
I have seen both movies. GND is a better, more moving picture. I believe GND is the best picture of the year so far. And I have seen all the leading action / adventure flicks. Can’t speak to the children’s movies.
RE: When Noah came out,
My, how the English language has changed... when I first read it, I had a different take on that phrase.
But seeing that this film is made by Aronofsky, I would not have been surprised if he made his Noah character come out. :)
Yes, God’s Not Dead has the 15th highest haul per theater this weekend (a massive $2,900!) while Noah is 20th with a pitiful $2,300!
15th is much better than 20th!
