A video uploaded by a Phoebe Landolt shows a riot cop assaulting a girl standing on the street. Police had been called in to quell a student riot in Arizona after the Wildcats lost their game to Wisconsin.
The girl in the video did not appear to be rioting or causing a scene, but the officer can be clearly viewed charging her and knocking her over for apparently no reason.
Just want to be fair here. Not such a great video. Hard to tell what happened there - did the cop even see her? The cop was originally out of view and she was blocked out of view - did he have reason to believe there was a problem? A riot is an emotionally charged situation and cops are on the razor edge of nervousness. It wasn’t like he continued to do something wrong - it was sort of a one shot deal - possibly a legitimate mistake. Article doesn’t clarify much.
This smacks of all the bogus racist campus crimes that have proven to be false lately.
I agree. Hard to tell what the heck happened much less why.

First: I really can’t stand these videos where they letterbox the view.
It seems I should have been able to see where the cop started from and some of where the girl came from.
That said “WTF?”
He charged her and broke his line formation to do it.

The adrenaline gets moving. The cop things “boy, I’m gonna beat the sh!it of these a$$holes! Then everyone starts looking like an a$$hole.

I went to college to become a cop and was a Sheriff Explorer for 4 years.
I was trained on riot control and attended trainings when the Sheriff Dept. trained.
If you have ever been punched, that’s one thing.
Try taking a punch with a baton. Can’t tell if he connected to her jaw but, if he did, that action breaks things and is totally unlawful to perform.
He is only allowed to engage the torso and legs and even then he has a ROE. Think Rodney King.
They beat that man mercilessly about the head and elsewhere.

Not illegal but, it is unlawful.
Definitely and assault and battery charge, plus a lawsuit. That girl may have just had her college education paid for, and then some.
Cops are dangerous. Always try to avoid them.

1) video is a bit rough, would like to see another angle.
2) She got up pretty quickly and seemed shaken up (no harm no foul?) but not hurt very bad. After she talks to an attorney, we will see her in a neck brace.
3) She is a Wildcat fan. The cops know how they act.
