HOUSTON -- A neighbor was arrested for shooting a neighbor's dog Monday in the South Acres community.

The incident happened in the 3500 block of Cork Drive near Scott Street.

The 13-pound mixed breed puppy is named Betsy.

"Poor Betsy," said her owner Emma Adderley.

She told us that the neighbor said he was tired of the dog going to the bathroom in his yard.

Lots of things wrong here.

Apparently Betsy is OK. They posted a picture of him at the link. Not pretty. Click it if you dare.

Anyway... You know who else needs shotgunning? The neighbor who did it, and the owner who evidently allowed her dog to use the neighbors yard as a toilet.

Once or twice should be forgiven, but if it's a pattern, I'm with you. I blame the lazy woman who let her dog use the neighbor's yard (and probably trained the dog to do just that) as much as I blame the woman who overreacted. It's sufficient to scoop the mess up and place it on the owner's front porch, mailbox, car roof (or better location with a convertible), or in their swimming pool. You don't take your frustrations out on a dog just because the owner is a bad neighbor.

Disagree.

Animla “plops” are also (1) scent markers for competitors and (2) territory definers.

I’ve “dispatched” animals “mid-pinch” with my 22. I don’t want to have to clean it up and I don’t need that cur’s competitor showing up to “cover over” his marker causing a large mess. Correspondingly, I vehemently disagree with the neighbor’s hound establishing dominance over my dog on my (her) land.

I find nothing wrong with what this Houston resident accomplished.

For a quieter, less dramatic solution I suggest a pan of Golden Malrin / rootbeer cocktail. A few good slurps and it’s tits up in less than 3 steps.

Does the lady pick up after her dog?

If she doesn't, then I can understand the anger, but not the action (overreaction).

Life is a test to prepare us for the next. We are to love our neighbors and forgive trespasses against us.

Shooting the neighbor's dog like that is likely to have some everlasting consequences. Just not worth it. Way too high of a price. Find a better way.

Don your flame-retardant undies.

I had some halo-phobic loon on this board beat his chest in self-righteous indignation of my dispatching a feral dog that attacked my wife.

I like to return such presents left behind; smeared all over the owner’s door. Dries nice and hard.

You don’t need to shoot the dog. A garden hose works fine.

Bet next time she has a dog she’ll curb it, and clean up after it.

With all due sensitivity toward sensitive animal lovers, I’m just asking a hypothetical question (not saying I resort to it): what do you guys think of using a BB gun aimed at the offending dog’s hindward parts? Does that cross the sensitivity line too? I really want to know.
