Amanda Knox was found guilty of murder today by an Italian court, the latest twist in a murder case that goes back to 2007.

The verdict reached by the two judges and six jurors came after several hours of deliberations at the Florence courthouse.

The judge sentenced Knox to 28 years in prison. Her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and co-defendant was sentenced to 25 years.

Two Italian judges and six jurors began deliberations earlier today. If Knox and her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito are found guilty, the court is also expected to pronounce a prison sentence.

The prosecutor has asked for a 26 prison term for the murder for Knox and Sollecito, plus another four years for Knox on a related libel conviction.

This is the fourth time Knox faced a verdict on the 2007 murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher while they were roommates in Perugia, Italy. Knox, now 26, and Sollecito, 29, were convicted in 2009.

After serving four years in prison they were freed in 2011 when an appeals court threw out the murder conviction. But Italy's supreme court ordered another appeals court to rehear the case. Kercher's sister Stephanie and brother Lyle were in the courtroom for the verdict.

Knox, who is sporting a new, short haircut, remained in her hometown of Seattle for the latest trial. Sollecito was in court today earlier today, but was not present for the verdict....

Italy has made their decision; now let them enforce it.

Sounds like a very efficient legal system. Will the US extradite her to Italy?

She won’t be traveling to any country that has an extradition treaty with Italy.

The U.S. won’t extradite her because the extradition treaty with Italy specifically spells out that we won’t extradite anyone who is facing double jeopardy. So she’s safe as long as she stays in the U.S.

As we speak Odumbass is conducting a focus group to decide if extraditing Knox back to Italy is in his best interest.

Say what you like about her innocence or guilt... the Italian justice system has really made a mess of this case.

What a horribly written story. There was a day when a high school newspaper wouldn’t run a piece that awkward with so many errors and disconnects. We are on the verge of a new age of illiteracy.

Is there anything the Italians don’t make a mess of?

No idea if she is guilty or not, but, I think Amanda will speak Italian like a native before she ever sees another day of freedom.

Let’s see. No evidence, no real reasoning, no nothing. But to save face the court finds her guilty.

What does this teach us? If you plan to live overseas, have your passport ready to go and RUN if you get into any trouble. You can’t count on a fair trial.

This is a very evil women. I hope she serves a long time. It’s a shame she connived her way out once. She will kill again, this time in the United States.

I guess she won’t be traveling back there.

Assuming that the US gov't refuses to extradite (who knows what they'll decide?) she'll never again be able to travel internationally. Not to Canada,or Mexico,of the Caribbean and *certainly* not to Europe.

She was convicted. In the U.S., I believe a person who was convicted, but the case overturned can be tried again. Look at that Marine.

They’ve had something like 378 governments since World War II. Why should their court system be any different?
