How does a five year old contract genital herpes? And from whom?

In the U.S. the most common way is for the mother to have an outbreak during pregnancy. If she is pregnant she is give an antiviral to prevent outbreaks. If an outbreak is present they will generally opt for a cesarean section.

Federal law requires that parents know and agree to any and all accommodations.

So what am I missing here, where is the beef, why is the mother so upset?

My guess is that it is one of two things. 1) She sees a chance to make some money. 2) She is some how under the impression that HEPA laws are being violated. Given that the care is being administered by a licensed nurse (I am guessing RN) I don't see how that is possible.

As I said previously, changing a diaper is not strip searching. Any parent that has ever changed a diaper know that it is in no way sexual in nature.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Thanks for the extra information... The problem here remains that the school nurse, under direction from a superior was not just changing the girl's diaper. The allegation is that the nurse - by her own alleged admission - was removing all of the girl's clothing and inspecting every part of her body, not just the areas exposed when the diaper was being changed. You do not need to remove all of a child's clothing to change a diaper.

The second thing that jumps out at me here is that if this child was still in diapers, was she sent to the school nurse to change her diapers every time they needed to be changed? That seems pretty far-fetched to me... If the school nurse is not the one that regularly changes the girl's diapers then why was she sent to the nurse on a daily basis to begin with?

There seems to be a lot more left out of both articles, frankly.

Just a general comment... It’s pretty amazing to me that people would not be aware of how a child contracts CONGENITAL Herpes Simplex. The name alone should indicate to people that this child was exposed in-utero or during birth.

The mother had to leave work.

Hm?....No mention of the dad in this article.

My conclusion: The mom is upset because she was denied free babysitting.
