Elderly couple found ‘holding hands’ after fatal crash

When highway patrol troopers attended a fatal car crash on Sunday night they discovered a rare and touching sight amid the horrifying crash scene.

In the wreckage was an elderly couple and the lady was still holding hands with her husband.

Floyd Nordhagen, 92, was already dead and his wife, Margaret, 88, would soon die at the crash scene.

Livestock breeders in the rural community of Chattaroy in Washington state, the Nordhagens were known among their friends and neighbors for their devotion to each other, reports KREM news.

Floyd was a “man who would help anyone in need, and a husband who always took great care of his wife, who suffered from Alzheimer’s”.

Friends told KREM that Floyd “always bragged about Margaret and how pretty she was”.

The couple had celebrated 68 years of marriage in July.

A family friend said Floyd had stopped him one day and said, “make sure you always hug and kiss your wife, that is something I do every day”.

Amen! If you love her, tell her often and if necessary, use words.

A smart loving man. They were blessed to be together.

My husband, my everything, died of a heart attack beside me at 3:11 a.m. I’m still in shock and grieving and urge everyone to tell a loving spouse that they love them before going to sleep.

No, they were destined to be together. R.I.P. Nordhagens.

Touching and sad story. However.....he should not have been driving at his age. Period. He was at fault.

They don’t mention if anyone else from the other vehicle was injured or killed. I pray not.

Not sad at all. My wife and I both turn 60 soon. I would love to go this way. Their age is a huge factor in my opinion.

That is age discrimination.

It may or may not have been a factor, but there is not enough info in the article to know. People of all ages do what he did and suffer the consequences.

I’m almost sixty and I drift pretty much every day on my way to work. Of course, I usually do it when there are no other cars around.

My grandparents were killed 25 years ago in a traffic accident. At the time, she was sitting in the middle of the pickup - bench seat - like she always did.
