ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. An Albuquerque mother says a school bus driver will no longer allow her daughter, who has cerebral palsy, to board the special needs bus. Related
Carol Montoya told KOAT Action 7 News she received a threatening text message from the driver, after Montoya made it clear her daughter Valarie, a second-grader at Chaparral Elementary, requires extra attention and special care.
"I guess she was fed up," Montoya said of the driver, "and she told me my daughter has too many medical problems that she couldn't handle."
Montoya said she received an obscenity-laced text message from the driver that read, "Get your f--ing fat a-- up and take your own f--ing retarded daughter to school. I ain't no nurse and sh--."

she might have legitimate beefs about doing things she’s not qualified to do, but she has absolutly zero professionalism and zero sensibility. i would wager she’s black given the diatribe, if it was repeated correctly. probably racist towards the child.
people really don’t have any pride in their work. she certainly isn’t working for the Lord, that’s for sure. if she has problems with certain kids, or what’s being asked of her with certain kids, you take it up with your boss, not the kids’ parent.
Lizzie Borden had a spell like that.
The special needs buses around here have Aides to help with children like this.
Is this an Amish bus driver?
Anybody in NM want to be a school bus driver? I think there’s a job opening up.
“Get your f—ing fat a— up and take your own f—ing retarded daughter to school. I ain’t no nurse and sh—.”
Busdriver, please...
Wow. If true its a good bet that driver is fired, the messaging style being what it was. Just the same, certain needs can’t be safely attended to while driving. Kids with CP can present difficulties and it ain’t their fault but it is not safe or fair to expect a bus driver to deal with some of those issues.
Print out the text, write up a quick complaint to the state and/or the Dept. Of Education Office of Civil Rights. The problem might be narrowing down all the different violations committed.
And now, the issue is disputed...
Obviously, the answer is fire the bus driver, assign a senior bus driver to the route with an aide (not uncommon for special ed buses). That doesn’t mean we can hold a public flogging with reporters showing up at the bus depot and the driver’s house, ooh and maybe the driver’s church (not likely, but maybe). Come on, this is America! Time to pile on!
Driver says the mom manipulated her phone to show the message. Maybe it was sent from Carlos Danger....
Nope. White. She’s denying she sent the text. Why assume a race?
I am willing to make a wager on the ethnic makeup of the text sender.
Why? Due to prior experience and prevalence of this sort of behavior among various segments of society.
If you really wanna ruin somebody’s life... Get ahold of their phone for a while and send a few messages.
...or plant some fun stuff on their laptop....
(Never piss off your IT guy...)
Our (very large) school district has aides and special training for special ed bus drivers. I think the training becomes more intense with experience, to meet needs of the greater levels of disability the student(s) may have, so by the time a driver has an especially needy student, s/he is capable of handling it.
I can imagine smaller school districts wouldn’t have that luxury, but can’t imagine any school district that doesn’t have aides for special needs students.
No matter the circumstances, this driver was way out of line. Any complaints should have been to her supervisor, not the student’s parent.
Well said!
Very strange message from the Bus Driver. Why would anybody choose that cringe worthy message?
That aside, yea I can see marginal cases where the child shouldn’t be left with a bus driver because of extended medical circumstances, particularly if the child is not ambulatory. I’m sure there are guidelines on the matter.
But it’s not always who you assume it will be. It’s a stupid game to play.
