From camel carpaccio to camel bourguignon and gold-leaf burger, the meat offered traditionally at big festivities of bedouins has become a fancy ingredient in the Gulf's prestigious restaurants.

Under the golden dome of Abu Dhabi's Emirates Palace, which bills itself as a seven-star hotel, French chef Sandro Gamba proudly presents his latest: a camel burger bedded in gold-leaf bread, served with onion jam and smoked halloumi cheese.

On the side, the traditional french fries have been replaced by fried hummus fingers.

I don’t see the big deal. Camels are made of meat, just like horses. I suspect camel meat and horse meat taste about the same.

I have no use for a camel at this time, or a horse for that matter.

I tried horse when I was in Iceland earlier this year; it was delicious, similar to fine grain beef.

I wouldn't hesitate to try camel, but I've never been anywhere that served it.

If you looked at a pig, you would never think “hmmm that looks delicious!!”...

I know people that eat Lamb, Goat etc... not my cup of tea... but i dont see the big deal either.

Hi—Welcome to Dessert Delicacies! Home of over 25 species of delicious critters. I’ll be your server today.

You—I’d like the camel pate, please.

Server—Would that be one hump or two?

You—Does that come on a bed of sand?

Server—Oh! You’d like the Bedouin Beach special! It also comes with scorpion pie and asp nuggets—its a real tongue-tingler.

I’ve eaten a close cousin to the camel, a llama. Tasted exactly like prime rib. Fork tender as well. It was, however, a very young one. Like goat meat, the older they get, the stronger the taste and tougher meat.

I don’t know, would Muslims not be prohibited from drinking something that could possibly have Mohammed’s DNA?

No thanks! I’ll stick with the more American elk, wapiti, deer, moose, bison, and cattle.

Y’all can keep that Krypton ha-lel whatever, over in your sand dune of a country!
